Try and Figure this one out ???

Casey's 2003 X5 4.4

Try and figure this one out...... After having the front brake pads replaced last week on my 03 X5 with full air strut suspension the mechanic finished the brake job and lowered the X5 from the rack back to the shop floor and the X5 suspension also lowered itself and would not go back to the normal ride height, the "Self Leveling Suspension Inactivation" message light came on, the BMW mechanic checked the fault codes nothing came back, He reset the ride height and everything was back to normal. So here is my question; yesterday I parked the car on my driveway while motor running, there is a slight 15% decline to my driveway, I had to go back and get the wallet I left inside when I got back in the car guess what???? The Self Leveling Suspension Deactive light came back on!!

What would cause this, by the way the X5 did not lower itself this time.

Could be many reasons. Do a search and see what others have found. Some people have had it come on but after a while it disappeared by itself.

Could be sensors, low voltage or other electric problem, etc. or even as simple as a fuse. I think there's a fuse just for the self-level suspension. I'd check that first as its simple. Hopefully it's not a EHC module.

he could have damaged the leveling sensor on the front lower control arm. try taking the battery off for a minute and see if it resets

Self Leveling Module

I had issues with my self leveling doing random stuff by itself and ended up replacing the module. Mine would just jack itself up in the rear sometimes-dragracer X style. I got one off a junkyard I found online somewhere in Cali and it was only like $40-problem solved. It lives in the compartment where the battery is underneath the spare tire. Electronics on these I think went to the lowest bidder regardless of quality.

i've read before that you have to get a few miles under its belt after a reset. when i had my x dropped off the thing was jacked way up from bouncing on the trailer. since the alarm was going bonkers i unplugged the battery for 10 mins to completely reset, then started it and after a couple hours of tooling around it returned to normal height.
