When was the facelift brought in?

I'm looking at getting a used X5 3.0d and have been looking at 2003 models upto 2005. However I want to know when the facelift occurred (month/year) and cannot find this easily in the fourm via search.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

ps - my budget is more 2003 than 2005 but I may stretch if its necessary

Last quarter of year 2003. Mine was manufactured in Nov 2003.

Model year 2004 was the first year of the facelift, date of production started 10/1/2003. (It was also when the X5 4.4 got the N62B44 engine)

Also FYI:
Model Year 2005 started 10/1/2004
Model Year 2006 started 9/1/2005

For those of us who drive on the LHS of the road - 10/1/2003 is actually 1/10/2003 (1st October, 2003). LOL. Sorry, X5 Meister.

Hey Meister,
I also came up with the following from Wiki: http://wikicars.org/en/BMW_X5 It mentions as April '04 as both the production & shipping date, so from what you are saying I guess they mean the shipping date.

To the OP, have a read anyway. It can't hurt to be more informed. GL with your purchase

Excellent - thanks for the info! Big help.

It only mentions April '04 as being production and shipping date for the 4.8is, as I read it.

X5 Meister 06-10-2009 03:00 PM

Right, the 4.8is was rolled out later. I don't believe any were made prior to 4/2004.

X Foomph 06-10-2009 05:23 PM

JCL,
You're right. After rereading it I now understand it as referring only to the 4.8. Funny how the scribe didn't give an exact date for the main run update.

Good to now know the exact date of said update of facelift, especially for someone after the newest prefacelift (if you know what I mean).

Meister, where did you source your info ?

:iagree:. By the way, the diesel model was what senwar is interested in.

X5 Meister 06-11-2009 12:52 AM

Yes, I know but since the USA never got that model I can't know for certain. A best estimate would be that the diesel was facelifted either at the same time as the gas model or shortly thereafter, certainly not before.

Also pano-roof and I believe auto lock hatch started in mid-April 04. So you will see 04 with and without pano roof.

Well I've moved a little since my last post, decided on a face lift, and now considering a 55 high spec Sterling grey one and an 06 similar spec Toledo Blue one. Each have + & - with the 55 being lower mileage and exactly what I'm after - but the 06 is newer, £1k cheaper and only has one previous owner (the 55 has 3, and has put me off a tad).

Anything I need to be aware of for those years? Both are from a BMW dealer (different ones)

Cole 06-15-2009 07:44 AM

One issue you may wish to take into account is that at some point BMW introduced the M57TU2 or M57N 3.0D engine. I have an O6 South African spec and it has the M57N engine which is 160Kw and 500Nm. The earlier versions, even though face lift models, came with a 150Kw and 480Nm engine. I have no idea when these engine upgrades came out in the UK, but you may want to check in the owners manuals of the vehicles you are looking at. IMO the 160Kw is worth looking for!

Are these two cars diesels? Also, what are their production dates?

Yes. Mine was built 11/03 with a M57N engine (the engine size is 2993 c.c as opposed to the 2975(?) c.c. of the older model) and "facelifted". The other giveaway is that it has 6 steptronic speeds instead of 5 of the older model.
