New wheels for project X

8 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

I wanted to share with you the latest addition to project X. As many of you know I have been looking at replacing my wheels for some time now. I have seriously looked at over a 20 different manufactures including Kinesis, Gianelle, Beyern, Avarus, BBS and many others. I will admit I probably spent the past 16 months looking at my options. I have touch fitted 9 different wheels over that time frame and finally I found exactly what I was looking for!

I had been working with Bob at Eurowheelsgallery.com he showed me a few pictures of the Miro 346 V-2 Attack which looks allot like the stock M-6 wheel with minor changes. I had some concerns regarding the inside diameter and clearance issues with my front brake rotors and calipers. He then put me in touch with the guys at Alt Wheels the distributor for Miro. They are located in Brea, Ca. I set up some time to stop by and Ez at Alt Wheels took the time to touch fits 4-5 wheels on my X including the Miro 346 V-2 Attack. I was interested in running the same width wheel front and rear as I have done in the past. It really helps lengthen the life span of what ever tires I run. He said no problem. I asked if I could inspect each wheel he brought out a pallet of wheels all 20"x10" and said here you go. I went through the six wheels to find four that were PERFECT! I felt like a kid at christmas...... I was able to complete the transaction within 45 minutes and left with wheels. They also referred me to a local shop that specialized in aftermarket BMW tuner Bavarian Exclusive without an appointment and at 4:45 in the afternoon they put my X on the rack and separated my old wheels and tires and spun each of the new wheels to check for defects, each wheel was less then .25 ounce from each other and none of the mounted wheels took more then .75 ounces of weight to balance them.

I had a very good experience and would highly recommend working with Bob at Eurowheelsgallery.com

FYI... I also have the wheels I pulled off the X for sale if anyone is interested. They are a hybrid set of (2) OEM style 87's and (2) after market style 87's all four are 20"x10" PM me for additional info......

N S 06-11-2009 01:24 AM

Not a fan of the black wheel look, but glad you found what you like.

bigfish 06-11-2009 01:26 AM

Thanks for the input guys........ Just different enough for me!!!

TaMbALoLoNg 06-11-2009 01:29 AM

I dont like it, sry. Not a fan of black wheels.

MD80 06-11-2009 12:36 PM

Man those look so good!

bigfish 06-11-2009 12:51 PM

MD

Thanks I for input, I dig them too. I'm still getting used to them after having stock wheels on for the past several years. It's amazing how a making a small change can modify how the whole vehicle looks.

Looks Cool! Well done with the Red accents.

Would love to see more wide shots of the car!

Dared2Bdfrnt 06-11-2009 01:29 PM

315 all the way??

It looks like you are running 315 tire all four corners.

are there any negative effect to that set up?

bigfish 06-11-2009 01:35 PM

Simon,

Thanks I thought the red was subtle and just the right amount to set off the brake calipers. Shoot me an e-mail address and will forward you a couple of addt'l pic's...

Dared2,

Actually their is a real benefit to running same size front and rear wheels/tires as you can rotate and prolong the life span of the tires. All wheel drive vehicles are harder on tires then traditional 2-wheel dive under normal driving conditions. I drive 2,000k miles a month and this car is a REAL daily driver. So anything I can do get more out of tires the better...

Thanks for the input, I really love the setup on my X, my wife sometimes questions who I love more, her or my X...... I took the the 5th amendment and I refused to answer that question on the grounds that I may incriminate myself be providing an answer....

It pays not to be married! Then you have more money for your X5!!;)

RR,

My buddy told me a funny joke on the golf course yesterday. "He said the best way to test if your dog or your wife loves you more. Put both of them in the trunk of your car together for an hour and when you open it watch for who is more excited to see you!

:0)

It's a great look overall. I haven't run into too many Brembo setups on this forum, probably because of the rim clearance requirements. Are those Brembos the real deal??! Must have cost you an arm and a leg! Looks slick with the drilled rotors and the red outer lip.

jsears 06-11-2009 03:11 PM

Big Fish,

You must have purchased them with your Dinan set up? What all do you have for Dinan mods?

F18,

yep the brembo's are the real deal they call it the BBK (big brake kit) 380mm cross drilled up front and and 340mm rears. Not cheap but overall they added allot to performance and yes they are easy on the eyes too!

JS,

Actually didn't purchase when I had Dinan upgraded. I didn't like the de-tuned look of the Dinan Brembo's too plain. My X is on more juice then Berry Bonds.... Lets see..

Dinan S3 package with all the bells and whistles (2004)
Reduced pulley wheel to increase supercharger boost (2007)
M-5 paddle shift wheel from Mr. Paddle shift (2005)
10.5" wheels front and rear (2006)
K40 Lazer rader jammer (2005)
Escort 8500 x50 back up radar detecor (2006)
Uniden BCD 396T Scanner (2007)
X-pipe (2007)
Bremob BBK (2006)
Roof rack delete (2007)
Carbon Fiber Dash overlay (still have not had time to install)

I think that is about it...

:drool::drool:

Wish they made an S3 for the 4.8is. Thinking about doing the SMG steering wheel next, just want to find a good deal on a wheel. I'd hate to meet your car on the starting line!

Hot!

bigfish 06-11-2009 04:58 PM

JS,

The steering wheel and brakes were my favorite two mods after the SC of course!!! It used to be a bit of sleeper from stop light to stop light, I'm afraid with the new wheels it makes a bit more of a statement though...

bf

jsears 06-11-2009 05:57 PM

BF,

They look hott! The X is definitely not a sleeper now! Have you been on a dyno with that thing? What type of numbers is that bad boy pumping out?
