22's too big?

I was going to get 20's, but my friend is now suggesting 22's to have a fuller look. Is this a bad idea?

Kris@modmynav 10-20-2005 03:38 AM

I have 22"x10" Front, 22"x10.5" Rear set up, and I love it.
you can find some pictures below..

That is a beautiful ride. Where did you get the clear head/tail lights? Got a link to the store you purchased those 22's? Also do the tires rub when you turn? Thanks.

Wuzin's 22" HRE's are intensely hot. They are some of the best looking wheels I have ever seen on an X5.

The thing about his wheels is that (a) they are HRE = huge bucks and (b) the style looks good in 22". I think there are some wheel designs that look silly in a comic book or Hot Wheels kind of way because they overpower the X5. Also, Wuzin has the 4.8is body kit on his so the overall look fits the 22" wheels. His X5 is one that I would aspire to mimic.

xymox 10-20-2005 11:22 AM

Will these 05 clear tail lights fit my 02?

:iagree: Normally I think 19's or 20's look best on the X5, but your HRE's are an exception

How are the 22's over potholes, though? (not sure how the roads are out your way... )
I'm probably getting 20's in the spring - and even they worry me on the poorly maintained NYC metro-area roads, let alone 22's!

It depends on the type of 22" Wheel. The HRE's that Wuzin has on his X5 is just right from a visual SIZE perspective since the color combination(gun metal) somewhat makes it smaller than it really is...

Other 22" wheels I've seen on some X5 makes it seem bigger thus making it not proportional to the size of the X5...

JaredT 10-20-2005 11:52 AM

Wuzin,

Sweeet ride, those HRE's are so dayam nice. Did you use your Samsung Camera phone for this pics??

Krunk Man 10-20-2005 12:47 PM

i love my 22s

Get what you think looks the best.

I have never had any problems with potholes. When i crank the wheel all the way when backing out there is sometimes a very small rub but nothing to be worried about.

Kris@modmynav 10-20-2005 02:05 PM

Thank you very much for the comments guys!!

and..

I used Nikon Coolpix 995 to take those pictures, which is very old and discontinued model..

You should get a 4.6is spoiler kit. That will look very good and I have yet to see one in Oxford Green. Do it. Do it.

Krunk Man 10-20-2005 06:30 PM

i would.... but, im going to sell this x this winter and hopefully get a 4.4

Once again, outstanding additions.

Very well balanced.

IMO those x's all look really good from a side view but nothing beats the factory 20x10 wheels with 315/35/20s for overall asthethics. I could be wrong but last time I checked you could not get this size tire in anything larger than 20". The bigger diameter wheels with smaller tires just looks to skinny to me on an x, even the 19s with the 285s look better.

Krunk Man 10-20-2005 09:16 PM

you can get 315 30 22 in a conti tire
I kept my tires the same size so i could ratate them.

and this would not cause rubbing..
DPE was trying to tell me to go with 285all around because any larger with a 22might cause rubbing.I LOVE THE 315in the rear look and would deff want to get something as close as that in 22's id obv get prolly 285 in front and then 305 or if possible 315... but not 285 thats just to small for the rear IMO
suggestions?

Thats not true is it?

You have DPE's on your ride? If so pics (or links to pics) please http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif .

Krunk Man 10-21-2005 11:56 AM

for the 22 inch rim the usual tire sizes that work are
265/40/22
285/35/22
295/30/22
315/30/22-rears only
all four of my rims are 10.5 inches wide and i could have easily put the 315s on the back but i wanted to be able to rotate the tires.

Imola depending on the width of your rim, i would go with a 285/35 in the front and a 315/30 in the rear. It would be major badass.. You should have no rubbing.

You and you and me! I have 18" DPE R7s on my 330xi. Would be cool to have a 22" set on my X5 as well.

kneedragger 10-23-2005 02:40 AM

Please don't get chrome... it looks ghetto fabulous.

soccerjunky 10-23-2005 03:41 PM

to chrome or not to chrome

please get the chrome, especially if the rims copy a bmw design wheel. i spent days deciding whether to go with chrome or alumunium, i 'm so so so happy with the chrome.

Krunk Man 10-23-2005 04:28 PM

get the :mantis:

AlpineMsix 10-23-2005 05:43 PM

no chrome for me thats for sure... but, do u think the handling would change if i went from 20's to 22's....good or bad?

Krunk Man 10-23-2005 05:49 PM

good cornering
harsh ride

kneedragger 10-23-2005 10:32 PM

I would think the handling would be worse because of the weight and the truck isn't designed for 22" wheels. With my 911, the car was slower and handled worse when I went from 18" to 19" and the car was designed for 19", but optimized for 18".

ricky.agrawal 10-24-2005 12:54 AM

Depends on the rims.
If you get lighter 22" rims, then the 22's will probably handle better, if you can get the balance correct.

No use in getting massively wide tires when your biggest problem is understeer.

kirkX5m 10-29-2005 07:32 PM

i was looking thru ebay and saw those, i like 'em

planning on getting a set of 22s maybe
or just a 2nd set of 20s will be ok too

thoughts anyone?

kirk , i think the set of rims u already have on the x5 are awesome because everything else just looks so aftermarket. U're rims look like they belong.

yah i know, but my OEMs are starting to show wear...so i wanted a beater set i could use and put the other ones away and only take them out from time 2 time.

kirkX5m 10-31-2005 02:12 AM

Krunk: did you drop your car?
Wuzin: i think you dropped yours w/ H&R's right? how much lower?
