Yes, please report your assessment of the new bushings after you've logged some miles.

BTW, why is this attempt 2? What happened with attempt 1?

Attempt 1 wouldn't allow me to post pics!

Tom at WELCOME TO WUFFER.CA - Home of the BC 8's imports the poly bushings for all the E31 8-Series cars so maybe he can bring some in for the X5?:dunno:

LOL, I thought it was attempt 2 for changing the bushings, not for posting about it.

X5Girl, what prompted you to repair / replace the bushings?

What are the advantages of the poly / plastics?

Thanks

The rear bushes were knocking badly and had completely fallen apart as you can see. My experience with poly thrust arm bushes has been excellent so I decided to do them anyway.

The poly bushes are easier to fit, improve performance, last longer and are cheaper.

No contest!

Well, I have now had the poly bushes in a week and I am thrilled. I had a small concern early on in the week when I found a shake at 110-120mph which was not there before.

I checked my tyre pressures, wheel torques and hubcentric rings and all seemed ok. So then I had the wheel balance checked and voila!

front wheels 35g and 45g out.

rear wheel 175g out..............ye gods!!! Other rear 60g out.

Got all rebalanced properly and she is as smooth as silk again.

VERDICT: The new bushes were mounting the rear subframe far more securely allowing the severely unbalanced rear wheel to transmit shake through the car.

Overall, the car now steers and handles better and is much quieter. I am very pleased.

Hey,
Does anyone know where to buy those rear sub frame bushings in the US?
