Rust on inner wheels and calipers
 

Anyone have any experience with cleaning up / removing rust from the inner wheel well and calipers on the X5?? The 2005 X5 I bought was from up in NYhttp://www.robertlipsitz.com/files/x5/photo.jpg

You'll either have to sand it off or use a wiring brush to remove the rust. Then you'll have to paint it or clear coat it to keep the rust from returning. Too much of a hassle if you asked me. I would just wait until the next brake job and just buy rotors that come with pre-painted hats or some type of protective coating. Same goes for the calipers...once you removed the rust, you have to coat it some how to prevent future rusting.

As dkl said, either find a rotor pre painted or DIY. When I did my last brake service, I figured it was the best time to paint my calipers and rotor hat/cooling veins. Subtle, but rids me of the rusty look....

Rotor hat painted cast aluminum, calipers painted black, then clear coated.

I fitted rotors that were already treated with a very high temp paint and then had the calipers and brackets powder coated. Also got the clips powder coated in black.

You could always bead blast your discs and them paint them yourself with VHT exhaust paint.

The paint on the braking surface comes off straight away leaving the rest of the disc protected from the elements.
