SHAKING!!! ahhhh

ok so i searched.. but

i kinda want opinions.

so i know i have to replace the brakes. i had shaking before when my brakes were low. but now, when turning to the right, it feels like the wheel is going to fall off. 113k miles im hopeing its not a bearing?

jst2878 06-25-2009 09:27 PM

bearing or cv joint. a bearing will have a humming sound, and the cv joint will feel like the symptoms you are complaining about.

lobsterlu 06-26-2009 09:57 AM

Yeah they did the right side. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...mw-x5-e53.html

is this what i need to do. also, if its shaking, i just need to replace it with this?

any recomendations on brand? price that i should be looking for? any good site to buy parts? i need to buy brakes, recommended? and the sensor for them. its time to do some work. also Spark plugs, what are you guys using?

jst2878 06-26-2009 10:55 AM

Go to ECS tuning on this website for all your maintenance needs. they r great!

lobsterlu 06-26-2009 02:08 PM

love the site. but cant find a cv joint kit

also, there are so man people on ebay seling Airflow sensors. my is failin and there are some that are 60-250 $s. their all the same , which do i get?

Werewolf 06-26-2009 04:57 PM

If you're cheap (like me), go aftermarket for the entire front axle (includes the CV joint / boot). AJ USA is a good vendor (and no, I don't work for them). Runs $250-300 for parts and labor

AJ-USA.com Performance Cars and Parts - Replacement Parts!

Make sure this is your problem before you spend the dough. Let's us know what happens

Ok NOW its really bad, its squeaking a lot on the left side when moving up and down and when stearing. But the bad thing is after getting the car back from my wife, the stearing is now super lose. the wheels still turn but its loser then before. what the heck is wrong! im taking it to the dealer now =( this sucks

lobsterlu 06-29-2009 09:42 PM

i honestly have to say that i have never neglected the car at all. always got serviced and i feel honestly, like throwing myself on the floor b/c this is the only car b/t 2 people who have to drive to work every day in florida and if this breaks down how the heck am i going to pay for the rest of the car . i really would love to get all the help i can with the car from the group

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 01:10 PM

So i took the cover which btw BMW dealer NEVER put back correctly or tight so it was off! i also took a look at this hose. its a air hose, but which. i want to buy it online asap and get it replaced.

amacman 06-30-2009 03:39 PM

the hose is the crankcase ventilating system, apparently you can buy similar hose from any auto parts store , made by goodyear is best , you need to get the correct size .
someone posted info recently on the forum so if you search for , ccv , crankcase vent , hoses , you should find info .
there is more to the system than hoses that may require replacement .

as for the shaking , you need to have the car checked out as soon as possible , take it to any garage or tire centre and keep us informed as to how things go .
the steering issue could be sway bar links ( easy and cheap) or something more expensive but people here can advise you when the actual problem has been found .

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 03:59 PM

i couldnt take it anylonger. took it to a place, free est.

lower control arms! jesus,
ok im going to look for the article on ccv. i need some steering fluid also. but they want 1300 in labor only for oil, spark plugs, brakes, and the lower arms. WTF!?

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 04:07 PM

ok found this
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...under-cpo.html

but can someone point to me a DIY on this? i want to get back there and take this hose out asap.

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 04:19 PM

also, man, which control arm do i get?
Control Arm

shouldve ask the mech. doh!

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 04:24 PM

last question,
where do people get this application , pdf?
http://www.xoutpost.com/attachments/...d2-medium-.jpg

amacman 06-30-2009 04:25 PM

at top of this page click on HOW TO`S then E53 TIPS then online parts catalogue
one is a control arm the other a tension strut , at least you`ll get part numbers and $$$
and see if you can find the crank vent system there because i could not .
there should be diy brake jobs here or on other forums , on the how to page near bottom are links to e38 and e39 where you will most likely find good diy .

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 04:34 PM

i know how to change the brakes. phew. ive done them before.

but the ccv is going to be hard to find.
the control arms i will do myself and spark plugs as well.

thanks amacman, i will buy the control arms today

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 04:41 PM

where would the ccv part be? i looked under vacuum control, etc cant find the ccv.

amacman 06-30-2009 04:49 PM

one hose leaves rear of left cam cover then goes to oil sepparator ( this has drain back to crankcase so get clued up before touching ) the hose leaving sepparator goes to another part at back of plenum chamber.
it previously showed in parts catalogue but no more ??????
there are diy posts in forum .

lobsterlu 06-30-2009 05:01 PM

this looks like it. Oil Separator and Intake Manifold DIY - Page 3 - E46Fanatics

amacman 07-03-2009 11:17 AM

that`s the 3.0 litre engine oil separator , on the V8 engine a hose leaves the left cam cover at rear then goes to the oil separator behind right cam cover . a hose then goes from there to diaphragm on rear of plenum chamber in centre of engine .
why dont you just replace the hose for now and see if that helps . try e38 . org , they show v8 engine but the oil separator is incorporated into diaphragm so no separator at right side but at least give you better insight to repair .
