What is up with my X5?

I have a 2005 X5 4.8is. It never seems to stop confounding me with the strangest of issues. Here is what it is doing now. Cruising along, say around 35mph, very light throttle. Then, very regularly, it seems to quickly slow down. Just for a split second, like somebody lightly tapped the brakes. I didnt touch them. Both my Wife, and son have also noticed this when they drive it. I have owned 4 consecutive BMW's, but this one takes the cake for the absolute worst reliability of any vehicle I have ever owned. And that includes an MG.

Wow! no ideas yet? The transmission still slips in 3rd when accellerating. Dealer still says they cant replicate it. they obviously didnt drive it each time I brought it in. It obviously wont slip when its not moving.

Hey, it's a holiday weekend; the tech gang isn't up yet...

A quick perusal on Search Tab, using a couple of different
worded queries, turns up several threads. Auto trans glitches
are hard to diagnose by mail, but there are numerous posts
and threads on problems with auto trans. I am sure you
will get some responses, but re-programming to a new trans
seems to be the spectrum.

couldnt tell by your post, so do you actually want help, or are you just venting?

I have been going over old posts for the past few months, but nobody seems to have the same symptoms as mine. The dealer is making me jump through all their hoops, but, since they are an hour and a half away. It has become particularly difficult. And the thing has become unpredictible and possibly unstable to drive. I have been at least diligent in my documentation over time, and I hope they will run out of ineffectual software upgrades, and do just what they need to do. Untill then, I am moving onto plan B, and have been researching my vehicle replacement options. They dont include BMW. I at least have an M roadster to fill this void.

Here is the ultimate solution, have the car towed to the dealer and leave it there until it's fixed. Tell them it is unsafe to drive and that you don't want it back until it's fixed.

To the OP: any chance the dlr is Century in G'ville, SC?
I had nothing but unpleasant/frustrating experiences there;
maybe they have improved, but doubtful.

Killcrap's suggestion is ok, but I suspect you are out of
orig. warranty; thus, big dough at the dlr for trans work,
but good luck.

I was not going to mention the dealers name, but since you guessed it. Yes it is. Yes, I am out of original warrantee, but I still have almost 17 months and 14k miles left on the cpo warrantee. That is why I have been careful to document everything. I have already spoken with BMWNA. They inturn made their recomendations to the dealer back in early May. I have been patiently waiting for a response from them. Nothing. Last week I called them. They said they have never heard from BMWNA. So I called them. They not only gave me the time and date they call, but also the service managers name. And what they discussed. So, I do feel I am being allowed to slide down a very slippery slope. I am in the process of crafting a letter to the salesperson from whom I have purchased two cars. The service manager, but also the general manager of the dealer. It will outline my experiences, good and bad, and also my frustrations. Not only with this vehicle, but in thier communications to get things taken care. One way, or an other. I need some closure here. It is expensive for me to take time off of work(like many others these days). But I have done it to comply with thier wishes, and service recomendations with this vehicle. I hate to say it, but a Toyota, or even worse, a Honda may be in my future. When everything works, this car is fantastic. Everything I want, and nothing I dont. I never intended this thread to turn into a rant. I just wanted to understand the nature of this latest issue from some people who may have experienced it.

Check your throttle sensor.
