amcink, sorry to hear that, but with any automatic transmission you'll eventually need to repair it, just like a manual clutch will never last forever. With these transmissions dealing with BMW power, it's no surprise that they;ll wear out eventually.
Fix it yourself, if you have some mechanical skills, you'll probably find it pretty straight forward. This is your likely culprit http://www.xoutpost.com/443788-post18.html The full thread, and more encouragement for you to tack it, PLus it'll cost you less than $300 Good luck, keep us posted. I orignally thought $8000 for a rebuilt tranmission was absolutely unacceptable, so i did it myself. |
Damn, I was just searching for swissfranks rebuild thread, and by the time I found it he beat me to posting it! Gotta love this forum! :D

I'm really surprised BMW never did a recall on the transmissions. Mine only had 70K when reverse failed

Thanks SwissFrank
I have made an appointment with the Dealership to diagnose it properly and see if I can have any "good will" repair. My appointment is next Saturday At the same time I have a BMW mechanic friend that help maintain the x5 an e36 and the MBZ. I'll have him take a look at your links and see if he feel challenge enough (but not overwhelm) to take on the repairs of the transmission. I'll keep everyone posted |
