Looking to purchase a 2006 X5...
 

Hi,

My name is Randy, and this is my first post here... I've been a BMW owner for about 6 years - I drove an '03-325i for 4 years, then upgraded to an '05-545i a year ago. I purchased them through the BMW CPO program.

I'm looking to replace my wife's big Ford SUV with an X5, however I'm on a tight budget. I like the 2007's but there is big price difference between the E53 and E70...

I'm currently looking at a 2006 X5 3.0i with many options (sport, premium, nav, pdc, cold, etc...) and low mileage (22K) - clean CarFax. It's at a local dealer, however they are NOT selling as a CPO.

I'm thinking of making an offer that includes CPO (and new tires), however I'm not sure how much the dealer will try to add to the price to "CPO" the vehicle.

If you have any advice in this area, then I would be greatly appreciative.

forget the CPO, just get a good used one checked out. go higher miles, we got ours with 43K on it and it is fine. Hell, you could go for 60-70K no problem.

There is little difference between 04-06, feel free to get 04 or 05 to save some cash...

If you're going to buy from a dealer, buy CPO. If you're going to buy private party, I'd want around $5k less than what the dealer is willing to give you. Looks like BMW is still offering 0.9% financing on 2006 X5s as well.

With that said, you should expect to pay $1k more for the CPO than the equivalent private party going value. (I know this doesn't make sense based on what I stated above, however the reasoning is you'll have to really barter down the private party value to get that kind of a discount)

Also, I noticed your in Fremont, you may want to consider driving up to Pleasanton to check their inventory. I found them more willing to deal than Fremont. Just my experience however.

negotiate as N S stated above, but if the cpo isn't nearly free, forget it. why pay them profit?? it is a scare tactic. unless you are hard on your vehicle, go for DIY...

CPO or bust with these IMHO. I got mine as a second "convenience" car, I didn't want to pay out of pocket for anything right away. I'm glad mine was CPO'd wouldn't have it any other way.

I picked up an '06 under warranty until September 2010, 24k miles on the clock, and I am glad to use it as much as I can. If it is still under factory warranty for another year (depending on the miles), I wouldn't necessarily worry about getting one with CPO, although if you are getting it from a BMW dealer I would insist that they include it with the purchase.

If you go elsewhere such as private party, you can probably get the X5 a bit cheaper, and then purchase an aftermarket warranty when the factory warranty expires.

If that car of interest, is at a BMW dlr, I would wonder why they would not
CPO, esp with the light miles...if it's at a non-BMW, I understand.

The low miles are of real interest, imo. And, it has lots of good options on
it. If it's at a non-BMW, I would ask for the key to be run at a BMW dlr,
to see its service history.
Sweet car...unless your wife's tastes are very different, she will love the
X5, imo.

i would stay away from that x5, especially if its from the dealer. A x5 that is still under warranty, with low miles, and the dealer does not want to CPO it? That is unheard of. Possible body damage, modified by the first owner. If it was a purchase assist vehicle(buyback lemon car), then the vehicle does not qualify for CPO.

I assumed about $1k, given how much the dealer will charge to purchase the Extended Warranty, which is pretty much what a CPO is.

The X5 that I'm looking at is not at Fremont.

Exactly my question, and why I raised this thread. The BMW dealer offers free carfax on their website, and this car is clean (3 year lease return, no accidents, local car [not from out of state]). Interestingly, this dealer has a couple of CPO X5s for sale, where the carfax shows accidents :wow:

I have to agree with the others, if the dealer is flat out refusing to sell with the CPO, stay away. But personally, with the economy being what it is and dealers hurting for sales, I would take my money elsewhere or wait until they come to their senses if they won't include it. I ended up waiting an extra 3 weeks after a car dealer turned down my take it or leave it offer, and in the end he ended up calling me when he was ready to meet my price.

Ok well had almost the same thing. I went with a CPO. Saw one I loved and dealer could not CPO it carfax was clean but I wanted it
CPOed for the .9% financing. ASK for the SERVICE records I will bet a service was missed or was well past the reccomended service schedule. That is what was wrong with the one I wanted. The dealer was going to give me the warranty but would not CPO it so I asked to speak to the "pre owned director" :) he was a good guy told mr that if a BMW has missed a scheduled service it can not be a cpo.

I'm convinved my wife will "love it". She test drove a 2006 X5-3.0 a couple of months ago and loved it. And a month ago, I brought home a new X5d for a few days (my dealer loaned it me while my 545i was in the shop), and she loved it, too!

It's just a matter of finding the "right one" for the "right price". You guys have been there - you know what I mean ;)

Well, the 3.0i was not available to look at today (was having the tail gate repaired?)...hmmm.

So, we looked at the following, which I think it priced kinda high (however everythings negotiable):

2006 X5 4.4i - Cobalt Black (Blue?) / grey int - CPO
26k miles
Sport, Premium, Nav, Cold, Comfort, Rear Climate, Shades
Clean Carfax - local 3 year lease return.
Asking $36k

I'll talk to the sales guy more about it tomorrow...

The issue is that going to a 4.4i is gonna be a few more $$ than a 3.0i, however when my wife drove this 4.4i, she said that it didn't have the same power as my '05-545i - maybe the extra weight and 4wd takes more power to move...

I would negotiate that price or go elsewhere. I got the same thing (except 3.0), same year, same packages, less miles, but for under $30k... and that was over a year ago.

0.9 is AWESOME financing. Use it while you can!

Agree with the majority that it's CPO or bust. It's so nice not to worry and drive a variety of Bimmers while your is in service!

If you are not too pressed to buy I might continue my search. Dealers are looking to move cars and there is a decent selection of E53's around.

Also, regarding the non-issue of 2004/2005/2006 MY X5 as they are the same car, the original in-service date is what determines how long your CPO will last so pay attention to that date when buying. You could, however, find a 2005 that has an in-service date VERY close to that of a 2006 so forget the model year but look to the in-service date.

We just got a 2006 3.0 CPO loaded with NAV and all, 38k on the clock with brand new rubber for $26k. Oh and that 0.9%!!!!!
