Which oil filter brand besides BMW?

I dont feel like taking the 30 mile trip to the dealer...

Which oil filter brand are you guys using?

This is for a 2004 3.0 X5

Hengst, Mann or Mahle. They're all OEM suppliers to BMW.

Use only one of these three. People very often have start-up oil pressure problems when they use other brans.

yea i can +1 that oil pressure issue with anything other then oem. ever since i had those problems with oil blowing out the seal around the oil filter cap i havent used anything but bmw filters. luckily my dealer is only 10 miles away.

sprocket1200 07-11-2009 12:45 AM

yup. i just use the left over filters from our e36...

OEM and OE are about the same price. I recommend you use OEM BMW oil filter.

Many NAPA stores now carry Mann filters for your X5, including oil and air.

could this also cause a knocking sound from the engine when it is starting up?? i am going to pick up a oil filter from the bmw dealer tomorrow, and hopefully it can solve this probelm.

Yes, that's the symptom.
