It all depends on if you are under warranty and your relationship with the sales advisor.

You typically get a loaner of the dealerships choice/availability if you are getting service under warranty. If you are out of warranty, then it depends on how nice your s/a is feeling that day. If you have a good relationship with him he may give you one. If you have a really good relationship with him, you may be able to choose from what they have (especially if you have a good relationship and are under warranty).

There are multiple reasons for them to or to not give you a loaner. If you got service/repairs done at a particular dealer out of warranty and they screwed something up where you had to bring the car back, they may provide you with a loaner for your troubles. They really don't have to give you squat.

Like I said. Depends on your warranty status and your relationship with the s/a. Nothing is written in stone that I know of. Unless the manufacturers warranty, extended warranty or maintenance warranty all include loaners.

Not sure if it is the individual dealer's decision or BMW policy, but the dealer I went to has posted loaner rules on their website. For example, must be '04 or newer (unless purchased from them) and must be a service of >1.5 hours. Full details here:BMW of Dallas Loaner policy
