Fitting that I get first reply!
I WANT MY MUFFLERS BACK! If I knew they sounded that good I might not have gotten the Dinan exhaust! They look great, you are right they fit really well, your X looks like they came with them! Glad you are enjoying them! Don't push too much down on the gas though! |
how do you like the bridgestone tires tom?

I swapped out my old tires right after i came back from CT meet |
there definitely a great tire and a good price for a set of four. i dont remember the way your x sounded before but after the 4.8 muffler install it sounds great!
|
Wow that sounds insane!!!!
|
Nice. Did you put the heat shields above them?
Be careful of the Ghetto guy. ;) |
Impressive sound tom!
|
Quote:
Just cut off the old one and weld them on. The Ghetto guy ... You dont ban him i will...;) |
sweet! sound really nice:thumbup:
|
okay sound , im not a fan of clones
|
Quote:
They are OEM 4.8is mufflers and its not like he re-badged his X5 to read 4.8is. |

Sounds great! Makes me wonder what my 4.4 would sound like with 4.8 pipes and exhaust.
|
Looks and sounds great Tom! You should get the 4.8iS heat protector trim:
HEAT PROTECTION LEFT - 51127010123 $14.19 HEAT PROTECTION RIGHT - 51127010124 $14.19 |
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the exhaust + installation cost you? I am very interested in doing the same to my 3.0
|
i paid $250 for the exh +50 for installed
|
damn, impressive...im jealous
u got a steal and one serious upgrade in sound |

+1 Sounds great....Now I need to find me a set... |

mwbmwx5 i think this post just started a crazy 4.8 exhaust hunt for all 3.0 owners
|
Clone!!! :stickpoke :bustingup:rofl::bustingup:rofl::bustingup :stickpoke
im just envy Tom... dont mind me...:thumbup: |
Here is an easy way to hunt down the 4.8/4.6is exhaust.... Keep an eye on your local BMW dealer and ask your SA guys to see if any of 4.6/4.8is owners upgrading the exhaust ...most likely you will get the good deal on them or even FREE if those guys dont wanna keep the old one.

Sounds great. Didn't know the lil 'ol 3.0 can sound that good  Is that with the stock resonator or x-pipe? That stock 4.8 exhaust appears to sound louder than my Remus on a 3.0 motor! Excellent mod!

Have your SA look for suckers like me that have to have the Dinan exhaust! :bustingup |

Any other advice is appreciated! |
Other places I would keep an eye out is:
For Sale section of this forum. For Sale section of other BMW forums. Junkyards Craigslist (I like using Google for this. Try your search term and then specify site:craigslist.org/pts that will search all of craigslist auto parts section for your search term). It would look something like this: Quote:

After calling many scrap yards, junk yards, etc. No one seems to be even carrying an X5. However, I did learn that NY shops cannot sell used mufflers?:dunno:
I'm taking a look on ebay, will an E70 4.8 muffler, fit my e53 3.0? There was one on ebay for $400... |
the e70 exhaust will not fit on e53
|
Quote:
Thank you. |
sounds great tom. I see suspension, how does that car handle?
|
guess i should have just blown smoke and said it was amazing... its a 3.0
thats looks just like a 4.6 kinda'. pick another word for clone then.. add a few more "mods" even. fk it  it reminds when you see the ultra rare540iM5 or the mb 320 amg :bustingup |

If you regularly drive from 80 to 150 the 4.6is may be more fun yea, but in day to day use the 3.0 is waaay more fun to me, so why not make it look incredible? 90% of the people on the street will not even know there were 3 e53 X5 models. |
"Clone! Still confused about that one....oh wait I get it because he did the 4.8 exhaust.......Right!! Let me guess he owns a 4.8 is and unless you do you aint cool...."
you got me i wish i had a 3.04.64.8 in my garage. |

how you ever even driven a 3.0 sport?
|
yes , it was a loaner a while ago... when i got back i asked if i could trade my 4.6 for it but they said no
|
lol that's fine, I'm not saying it's faster. but you're talking about 115 extra horsepower at the cost of 300 pounds, and a completely different steering system. for pure handling (where the driving fun is for me) the 3.0 sport beats it. the 4.6is is fast in a straight line woopie but that thing is really all about looks.
|
:fight:Damn, are you guys still measuring dicks?

like i was saying the exhaust sounds awesome and if you guys ever get a chance to drive a 3.0 sport take it ! its amazing too:thumbup: |

If he likes it, that all it matters. Eyeryone should enjoy their mods. Peace. Tom, Do you have the x-pipe/resonator-out too? |
Quote:
yes i do have the resonator deleted and replaced with X-pipe and some other stuffs done to the engine too |

The 4.6iS' steering may not be as refined as the 4.8iS but i would take a vehicle-speed sensing rack-and-pinion steering over an engine- speed sensing steering any day & night. *Back to topic: Tom's X looks incredible as i got the privilege to see it in person at the last Tri-State meet. IMO, if it's badged as something it isn't then i can understand the debate. However, it's a well modded X5 with OEM trim and functional upgrades. It's not as if his mods are exclusive to the "iS" models. E53is, i don't believe mrbmwx5 asked for opinions, he simply posted to share another of his many mods, which in turn and as usual, will inspire others. He wasn't soliciting feedback...If you don't like what you see, simply move on. |
i was just giving my opion "rundc" if that cant be done here then what is the point?
before you go " he didnt ask , no not by the words but if you put up photos you better be okay with people saying this or that. im pretty sure mrbmwx5 is a bigboy and doesnt need you defending him. |

also sorry for the thread hijack, I just wanted to stick up for the little 3.0 because I do love it. |
I think, Tom need to post more pics of his mold, so we could keep this thread going:popcorn:

Tom,
As usual, very well done. Love that note and the rasp. Might get me a pair of them one day. Any chance of hearing it pulling away under load ?? |

Like most guys they like to play with old classic cars....As for me this E53 X5 is my modern classic and the mods will keep on cont... BTW dont you all think that i can't afford the 4.4 ,4.6 or 4.8is becuase i have a 3.0i .LOL I got this 3.0i way before most of you can afford the BMWs with 17k miles on the clock at the price of $23...k back in 12/2001 |
" I got this 3.0i way before most of you can afford the BMWs with 17k miles on the clock at the price of $23...k back in 12/2001 "
keep rocking man , if it makes you happy thats all that matters  |
hey, sounds nice!
|
Great sound. Anyone in Australia that is thinking of uprading their exhaust on their 4.6/4.8 give me a yell. I would love to do the same for my 3.0. Nice work!! ;)
|
Tom, i show my wife your video and she LOL:) - many X5ers in this forum look down 3.0i but frankly even though X5 w/ 3.0i less power than 4.4, 4.8 but it is better and last longer.
Also, X5 is just another car outthere, nothing can't be untoucheable nor mods. Keep it up. |
Hi Tom,How do you like does bilstein shocks? Better or same as OEM shocks?
|
Heat protector trim? Where can you get those from?
|
Quote:
Aftermarket bilstein $$ = oem bilstein $$$ oh...Let me shoot you PM for the heat trims p/n |

Seat need any modification? Thanks |
hey can i put a full catback 4.8 on my 3.0?
|
Quote:
|
Hey i really want to do this on my 3.0 but im new to all this stuff. so all i have to do is buy the 4.8 tips and ask my local bmw place to weld them on or do i have to buy hte whole exhaust from the 4.8?
|
Quote:
so my guess is not the whole exhaust, but if you do end up getting a whole one you can cut the cans out and put them on your 3.0. |
Quote:
|
mrbmwx5 has put 4.8is mufflers(left and right), each of the muffler is list priced at $819.40(see link below). If you are buying these from dealer, it will cost you over $1600 +labor. You still will not have as good sound as you will with Eisenmann or Remus mufflers for less price. Unless you can get some used mufflers, its not worth it.

If anyone is curious about N62 4.4i installation from resonator back with full 4.8is mufflers, here is my pictorial.
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ts-4-4i-2.html Of course, this is much easier if you cut off right before the muffler cans and weld there. This wasn't cheap as LemansX5 suggests. |

fwiw, if you can find the 4.8is mufflers in a junk yard, it is the best money I have spent on my manual 3.0, smoothed the entire band and a nice quiet rumble, no blat whatsoever from a redline-drop-to-idle. 3.0 certainly -seems- to breathe better, and I was expecting no difference at all. The wife noticed it as well, asking if I had found better gasoline, lol. NOT hp, just smoother.
The exhaust that shoulda' coulda' been standard across the X5 line, IMHO - yes I appreciate my luck finding them here. To my knowledge and personal experience, no to sound, the beautiful tips are just that, eye candy, but I have not heard it without the tips. I have heard a 3.0 -with- pretty tips, no difference in sound, but its cat-back is hobbled in my opinion. |
