Oil extraction pump

I'm pondering buying the mityvac 7300 oil extraction pump to change my oil in my boat. Will it also work on my X5?

Has anyone used an oil extractor to change their oil on the x5? If so which brand and model works well?

Any suppliers?

thanks
dm

I use the Mityvac on my 2004 X5 3.0 and it works perfectly. I like the Mityvac because it is semi-transparent and it has the liter marker rings to tell you how much fluid you have sucked out.

thanks for the info on the mityvac and the link. I did do a search but missed it.

I too was looking at the mityvac at amazon. However, I saw a commercial unit that says it has a bmw adapter included. I wonder what that might be. Does anyone have a guess?

here is the link to the unit:

PBE 9MS A7350 - 8 gallon air operated oil changer

Looks like I could use it for all my equipment.

any thoughts?

I bought a manual pump from Harbor Freight and I havent had any complaints. It may be a little longer to pump. I think it was $30 or so.

I use mightyvac on all our vehicles. no issues. what a sweet way to DIY. And on a 3.0L, oil filter right there, couldn't be easier...

The motive products oil extractor looks good. Why does it only come with one probe for removing oil? Some of the other ones have more than one for different size dip stick tubes.

Also, can I confirm that it will work on a 2004 x5?

I think the link lists the cars it won't work on. I don't think the X5 was on that list so you should be good.

A quick email or call to Motive will confirm that though.

I have used an extraction pump on my old mercedes without any problems, and I am sure the Mercedes dealership that I used to take the car in for free oil changes (a few years ago when they were included) did the same... i.e. suck the oil out from top.

But frankly it was too much work to manually pump the damn thing and it would take forever for it to suck the whole 8.5 quarts out... I found it easier to just do the oil changes the old way of draining from bottom.
