Why wont these lights work w/ xenon? (pics)
I need to get new headlights because my lenses are trashed. I don't want the ricey/cheap look and I found these on Ebay. When I scroll down I noticed it says "will not work on Xenon equiped vehicles".
2001 2002-2003 BMW X5 CCFL HALO PROJECTOR HEADLIGHT E53:eBay Motors (item 360132878332 end time Aug-17-09 17:47:15 PDT) Why wont it work? Is there somewere I can get black housing lights with amber corners with angel eyes (yellow or white) that are plug and play with my X? I acctually want to upgrade my bulbs to 6k or 8k so I thought these would work great... http://racinghouse.onlinera.com/head...0207AB-CCF.jpg |
looks ricer to me

So other than that , why won't they fit? is it a bulb fitment issue or what?
|
cuz these headlamps are made for halogen vehicles.
|
yea but my point is is it a mounting tab issue ? where can I find headlights for a Xenon equiped X?
|
i cant tell you since, its an aftermarket headlamp, i can tell you that the head lamp is made for halogen vehicles, if someone had given you an OEM headlamp for vehicles equipped with Halogen lights, would you put thoes in? The idea is the same when it comes to aftermarket headlamps. Just go purchase used OEM headlamps and call it a day.

good advice , get OEM lamps , other people will tell you the same cos many have tried messing with lamps already .

You could just refinish the lenses and keep the OEM lights if you want, That's the route I took. (couldn't find a good option for aftermarket xenons either)
I bought a pair of OEM xenon lights manufactured before 10/02, used a heat gun to heat the glue and remove the lenses. Removed the fluted wafers and trimmed back the corner lenses. While the lenses were off I sanded them down with a random orbital sander starting at 400 grit and working down in stages al the way down to 2000 grit. I then had the lenses sprayed at a body/paint shop with automotive clearcote for a perfect finish that shouldn't fade for years to come. (then I had mine sprayed with a black/clear candy coat for the smoke tint) You could easily just have the lenses sanded and sprayed by a body/paint shop even while still on the vehicle. |
I read that in some countries, cars with Xenon lights are required to have "Auto Leveling". I had a pair of headlights that looked very similar to these, which had no leveling motor. So may be that's the reason?!
Just my 2 cents |
Well if its just an autoleveling issue and not a mounting issue then I can make them work but it is an expensive experement if it doesn't.
