Post pics of your tints!
Please post some pics of your tints. Im looking to have mine done and want to see what percentages you guys are using.
FYI - I have rear privacy glass. Should I go over it to make it darker? Let me see some of your pics. Thanks |

:confused:oh, ok.
I'll post some of the shade option pics. I chose that instead of over tiniting the rear.:dunno: |
What % is on the fronts?

Looking for pics is the hardest thing. I did a search for "tint" and "tints" but there are really no good pics of each % of tint. |
Do you keep the 19 inch on all year? They ok in the rain and snow?

It's recommended to have a thinner tire for winter. I bought some OEM 18x7 and put the Vredesteins on. |

Not sure who owns this X, but I came across it a little while back and kept these pics moreso because it stood out from others with the extra dark tinting and lower valance parts painted the bodycolour.
Not really my cup of tea re tinting as it's a bit full on. I'd guess around 10 - 15% at the rear and a tad higher (maybe not??) for the front. Wow, check out the windscreen even. Wouldn't get away with that here in Aust. To each his own I guess. |

20% rear / 30% front...was pulled over for my tints and police meter read was 28% fronts:

Here is some pics of the tint that I got done on my X. Its 5% which during the summer is UNBEATABLE!!! Get a windshield shade and your car (mainly the leather) will stay cool inside. As a warning though, backing up at night requires a roll down of the windows rain or shine. But my daughter (3yrs) loves the difference now and never gets the sun in her eyes.

I love the look but the cops in my town wouldn't allow it. My rear's read 5% and my fronts used to read under 20% and then one night a couple years back when one of the town cops decided he didn't like my tint, he wrote me a ridiculous ticket, like $2250 (250 for every window with tint) and then told me that if i change my front to a legal 35% than he would rip the ticket up.
I complied and he ripped the ticket up.. I don't want to push buttons here, its a very small town with only 8 cops total and about 2300 residents. So Tamba, do you get the same treatment?? It look great. |
I should also note that I am very very bummed that my front windows look so ... barely tinted.
|
Holy crap RPX5!! Thats the kinda stuff that gives cops a bad name :( Cause that is a little over the top, but I guess he got what he wanted. Got a tint ticket in Denver years back on my S/C Frontier and it was only $42.

Eh, i kept face, did what he asked.. if it was different town, maybe a larger town, or a state cop, i would have probably took it to court for a little conversation with the legal system. it was all a bunch of bull.. imo.. but like i said before.. i'd rather be on this guys good side.. and to be honest, there havnt been any problems since then. |
i've been hassled many years over my tints on my 325i now i make sure everytime i see the po po i roll my fronts down... Here we have zero tolerance for any front tint! rears can be limo if you wanted... so with the X i have gone limo and 20% front... if i'm gonna get caught i might as well go all out! lol!

I bought it this way, but if I had to guess I would say it is 35% all around over the factory privacy glass in the rear. It is perfect for me. On my S4 I went 35% rear and 50% front, which is also quite good on a dark car w/ dark interior.

Here is a pic of mine, same colour as the original poster's car, so might help him out. Tints were on it when I got it, the fronts are not as dark as the rest, and no tint on the windscreen (New Zealand Law)

Food for thought; In this modern age of scientific advancements and what not, how is it that we can't buy a windshield that for want of an explanation reacts just like a pair of photochromatic eye glasses, i.e. the 'tint' changes from light to dark dependant on how much sunlight bounces off them. Super dark in the daytime and much lighter at night. I realise that the cost of such a windshield would be very costly, just surprised it's not available. :dunno:..............:dunno: |

speaking of photochromatic i read a while back that either benz or audi was working on a car with windows like that... would definitely make alot sense... or even auto dim like the rear view mirrors.. |

Speaking of tint, I was about ready to purchase this X5. What's up with this tint? I think it's a pretty crappy job, right?

... ...Mine ain't like that...looks terrible imo. Sometimes you pay for what you get. http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7346/badtint.jpg |
I think maybe it wasn't "privacy glass" to begin with and the last owner may have gone too dark, maybe too much of a contrast and on those raised edges (where the black sort of distorts into the glass) the tint sometimes has trouble holding and can look that way. Not a terrible tint job, but sometimes hard to avoid if the curing conditions are too cool. If it was tinted during a cool/cloudy week, the film will remain stiff and have issues like this along the edge of the X5 rear window edges. My first go at mine, I tinted during winter, this sorta thing happened (not as drastic since I have privacy glass to begin with). Come summer and a hot forecast, I did the rear window over and not it looks perfect, like glossy black windows.
