I, too, have the 3.0, and I have had no major issues with my car -- at least not problems isolated to the 3.0. The very few (minor) issues I have had are issues that plague the X5 across the board (window regulator, power mirrors suddenly going haywire). I have been very, very pleased with the car, and have no major complaints at all.

As far as power: The 235hp is misleading. On paper, you'd think it is under-powered considering the weight of the vehicle. All I've got to say is: drive one. BMW has done a marvelous job with the gearing, and the car simply is NOT under-powered! Is it as fast as the V8? Of course not! But, very, very rarely have I wished for more power.

You'll fall in love with the car, trust me.

I can tell you the results of the poll right now after spending countless hours on 3 different X5 forums. There is no difference in reliability or problems with the 3.0 versus the 4.4, 4.6 or 4.8. If there are any statistically significant differences it would only be because there are more 3.0's versus 4.4's or vice versa therefore there would likely be more incidences or reports of problems. What's more, it would call for a pretty subjective determination of what a serious problem is. Bottom line: There is no notable difference.

The results would not be statistically significant. Too many variables, such as number of 3.0 sold vs 4.4 sold, number of 3.0 board posters vs 4.4 board posters, and number of people who care and those who could give a rat's a$$. :)

About weakness? i was told that the V8 its much better of course more power. . . I have a friend that works at the BMW dealer for 12 years and he said that most of the X problems he has seen are 3.0 engines. Again this is what i was told..

Romeo,

There are no major problems with the 3.0 engines. If you are buying a new X5, you are covered under warranty. If you buy a used X5, try to find a CPO vehicle or one with an extended warranty. If you decide to buy a used vehicle without a warranty, the best advice I can give you is to have the seller provide a vehicle service history and have the option to have the vehicle checked out before you purchase.

I can not tell you how many times I have had customers leave crying after I give them a laundry list of problems I find on a vehicle they purchased a week to a month before and then had it checked out. :tsk:

It is easier to pay a dealer or qualified independent shop 1-2hrs. in labor for a full check and be able to send it back if it has issues. Just my .02
