I, too, have the 3.0, and I have had no major issues with my car -- at least not problems isolated to the 3.0. The very few (minor) issues I have had are issues that plague the X5 across the board (window regulator, power mirrors suddenly going haywire). I have been very, very pleased with the car, and have no major complaints at all.
As far as power: The 235hp is misleading. On paper, you'd think it is under-powered considering the weight of the vehicle. All I've got to say is: drive one. BMW has done a marvelous job with the gearing, and the car simply is NOT under-powered! Is it as fast as the V8? Of course not! But, very, very rarely have I wished for more power. You'll fall in love with the car, trust me. Juan |

There are no major problems with the 3.0 engines. If you are buying a new X5, you are covered under warranty. If you buy a used X5, try to find a CPO vehicle or one with an extended warranty. If you decide to buy a used vehicle without a warranty, the best advice I can give you is to have the seller provide a vehicle service history and have the option to have the vehicle checked out before you purchase. I can not tell you how many times I have had customers leave crying after I give them a laundry list of problems I find on a vehicle they purchased a week to a month before and then had it checked out. :tsk: It is easier to pay a dealer or qualified independent shop 1-2hrs. in labor for a full check and be able to send it back if it has issues.
