What Oil do i need for my Transmission

Everything is in the title....

I want to change oil of my transmission but i don't really know which should y use......

My transmission is a GM5 and my X is from 2003 approaching the 100.000Km

I already know that my old oils green/blue/olive color, what made me surprised frankly speaking.:bounce:

But i have read that Dexron III (rose/red color) should fit my transmission caracteristics.

Not so long ago i went to my BMW service and the guy told me that they already use Dexron VI (first time i hear about it......).

There for i am a bite lost in so many contradictions and colors.

What would u recommand and from which brand http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/wow.gif ???

I have heard that Motul is the best for transmission, true ?????http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif or Castrol maybe ?????????http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

Dexron VI is what the dealers are now using.

You can choose any name brand Dexron VI oil, or choose other synthetic oils such as redline D4 and Amsoil ATF.

Ok , txs for info.

Did u do the change personnally (i mean did this oil have been changed on your X) ??

And do u have the same transmission as mine ??

In the U.S., which brands is considered the best and why ?

I leave in Russia and weather condition might be a bite differentes....

I have a 2004 3.0i equipped with the GM5L40E transmission. I personally used Dexron VI for my first filter change and fluid flush. Then reflushed it out after 5000 miles with redline D4 Atf without a second change of the filter. I did this at 79k miles. I'm now at 88k miles.

I used Castrol Multi-Vehicle in my 2003 3.0i at 75K. Changed filter at same time. At 90K now, runs great. Not too expensive either.

I did the Amsoil synthetic ATF fluid/filter change about 2 years ago in our 3.0L GM tranny.

you may already know this, but BMW recommends NOT to change the fluid in this trans.

on my wife's 2006 X3 I changed the fluid with Castrol DexVI. It has the same GM transmission part number as my 2003 X5.

Unfortunatelly Castrol Dexron VI is not sold here.

And very difficult to find from Petro-Canada Dexron VI too.

Medium price for 1L. = 16$

Check with your service advisor....Its now scheduled to be replaced at 100k miles. Not lifetime anymore.
