Missing a hatch stopper (?)
 

Anyone know if there's supposed to be a 2nd soft rubber trunk hatch stopper on the right side of the latch (where the black torx bolt is in the picture below) or are we only supposed to have the one on the left side?

Pretty sure it's Part # 38 "Bump Stop" or "Buffer" P/N 51-24-7-141-879 retails for $24.85. At that price good thing you only need 1 !

As per RealOEM.com it is called a Bump Stop. I'm pretty sure it is Item 38 on RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 4.4i TRUNK LID/REAR WINDOW and it looks like it sits on a base washer being Item 37. Note part numbers mentioned.

And yes, we all only have 1 like stat said.

Curious to know what has happened to your Bump Stop, has it broken off or what ??

Though I don't think # 37 is used anymore since the Torx bolt (# 16) has an integrated washer.

i askes this question on a prior thread..mine has only 1 on the left side of the latch..a member told me that it should have 2...i have a 2005...so i dont know 1 or 2

1, which is what it also says in the schematic.

I have an 05 x5 that came with one, but at some point when I moved into my condo, loading and unloading heavy furniture seemed to have knocked the part off entirely, and now I had been hearing a creak rattle type noise and finally figured out what it was.
