Air flow for A/C deminishes

My 2001 X5 A/C air flow deminishes through vents after driving car at higher speeds--like freeway. In fact the air is much less thru all vents..switching from front vents to front defrost...etc..

Lettign the car sit, and coming back it an hour or so later, the air flow is MUCH stronger thru vents..cool, etc.---but city driving. It seems like the A/C & vents are definitely effected by the car workign harder..at higher speeds. Could it be the condensor freezing? I get a considerable amoutn of puddled liquid (water condensation) under the car.

Teh Final stage, freon, and microfilter all have been serviced.

Help?

Sounds like the evaporator is freezing over, the dealer may be able to adjust the minimum temperature a couple degrees to prevent freeze up but I don't remember if the E53 is adjustable that way... damn you bad memory. ;)

Thanks for the reply..you think that would effect the air flow amount? SOrt of curious of why it happens when car is at higher speeds..most A/C issue out there are when car is idling...

At higher speeds, usually after a couple hours on the highway, the moisture pulled from the air by the evaporator can freeze to it blocking air flow. The reason it happens more at higher speeds is due to the volume of air being pushed through the condensor in front of the car which helps cool it and makes the system operate more efficiently.

my 02 does the same. at times, pressing the "max" button restores the air flow. puddling large amount of water under the car as well.

Are you just living with ith..mine does it quite consistently....I'm pretty sure no matter what I do to the controlls I can't get the air flow back...until I let the car sit for awhile..
