Eisenmann race exhaust for 4.8is
Thinking about putting this on my truck. Anyone have experience with it? Ive heard the clips, sounds like a beast under full throttle! More concerned with everyday livability, droning, etc... Opinions?

What is wrong with the factory rumble? The 4.8 sounds aftermarket as is. If there was a performance benefit, I would understand, but i already feel like I am under the cop's supervision whenever i punch it.

Here is my story FWIW. I installed the Eisenmann Race mufflers (it is only mufflers - no pipes) on my 4.8 not too long ago. I thought the stock exhaust sounded ok but not aggressive enough for my own taste. I ordered the setup w/o the tips as I wanted to retain the stock look. After waiting for over 10 weeks, the mufflers came in without the pipes that would make the exchange operation a "bolt-on" deal (other than for the tips). Their website clearly said that they would come with pipes for the 4.8 so my dealer contacted Eisenhaus and they said that this was a mistake because the stock pipes were already the right size to fit the mufflers and did not have to be replaced with larger ones (unlike with the 4.4). When I complained that this meant that I had to chop up my stock exhaust setup to weld on the mufflers, thereby making a return to stock or sale of my mufflers much more problematic, and that this was a lot of money for just mufflers - no matter how well made they were , they offered to return my deposit (after all these weeks of waiting) or to give me a break on the price (I think about 25% off). I took that deal although it left a bad taste in my mouth. The sound is certainly not too loud from inside the car, no droning at all, and quite an improvement over stock. I can only really clearly hear the sound difference when I open the sunroof and rear windows and really get on it and at startup in my garage. For me personally, it could be a little louder but most people tell me they really like it. I have not heard a 4.8 w/o resonators so I cannot comment on the difference. Good luck.

i have the race with custom ordered 83 (or 86)mm double tips simply because i knew and did not want to cut and weld the OEM tips
i had eisenhaus order the eisenmann custom for the 4.6 and i really enjoy it. its different than any exhaust, and the twin extra large tips complement the X5 4.6/4.8. ekaz's machine sounds awesome. i can't wait to drop my resonators and make it even louder.. |
any sound clips ?
the eisenhaus website only has 4.6 sound clips, i think the race exhaust would sound differently on a 4.8 ... |
I bought ekaz's 4.8 and although "everyone may have loved it" let me tell you it's too loud. You hear every shift, sounds like a 68 GTO, not a BMW. Plus I think there is a drop in the low end compared to other 4.8's I have driven. It drones at modest speeds and any time you get on it everyone around you including the cops can't miss it. I have the stock components on their way (he used the stock stuff and cut it up... uhhh)to replace everything $$$ ching ching. I will be selling the rear (straight thru) pipes eventually so if you want this let me know..keep in mind ekaz put in a flowmaster 50 and then the straight pipes.

Are you selling straight pipes that replace the resonators? Really not sure how your set-up now is pieced together. But I'd like to have my resonators removed. BTW 2000 4.4i
