Oh okay then :) so lets cross our fingers and still have hope :D
ZF 5HP24 transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia < Thats your Z4 transmission wiki :) |
I'd first try having the adaptations reset via GT1 (dealer or BMW specialty shop) then drive very easy footed for the first day after the reset, most importantly thew first drive after reset. That will let it relearn all the shift points. Note that it will drive rough the first few shifts after the reset.

Hi Weasel - is the result from resetting the adaptation via GT1 different than the "30 second reset"?
==== -Turn key to position 2. But dont start the engine. -Floor the gas pedal for 30-40 secs. -Release the gas pedal, step on brake and start the engine. -Drive FORWARD ==== It's going to be tough to ask the workshop to only do the reset :dunno: Will unplugging the battery for a while do the trick? (Btw, starting 5th gear in stop... it does drops down to 3rd gear automatically. I did the 30" reset and drove with easy foot this morning. Will report back if it helps when I get home tonight). |
I have never confirmed that the "30 second reset" actually resets any transmission adaptations... it may even be the throttle adaptations it resets. I would just need time to have my truck in the shop, read the adaptation values, do the reset and read again to see if they were reset.
And unplugging the batter does nothing for adaptations as the codes are written into the ECU's memory... |
Updates:
Took the car in, GT1 reset didn't help, replace a sensor didn't help. So the car is in for a little make over on the transmission now. Estimated US$2k. Ouch! |

Ok... got car back. The transmission has been rebuilt / overhauled. Only drove it for a little bit last night from workshop to home. So far so good. The only thing (and it might just be my mind only) is that the changing of gear isn't as smooth as before. I could feel the change of gears a tiny bit more than before.
Is this before the new parts need a run-in period? Any tips to test drive to make sure the tranny is in good shape now? Any sound to look out for? Here's the pics showing some of the stuff that had been replaced... along with lots of other little bits and pieces. Attachment 36314 Attachment 36315 Thanks. |
