my first accident...
Got into an accident today at approximatly 7 P.M. The guy behind me in a Chevy was following too close and fast. I stopped hard at a light and he ran right into me. Everything was fine, all I felt was a push and heard a loud thud. The X was fine, but his truck was pretty beat. Here are some pics to share with everybody:

Ouch that hurts. I'm sorry to hear about the accident. At least know one was hurt. :whew:Was your rear suspension affected?
|

The only things messed up were the exhuast which was a little crooked, the bumper, which was scratched, and the piece above the bumper, which was dented. Other than that, the car was completely fine and drivable. :) |
Quote:
that makes sense, it will definetly be taken into consideration. |
WOW!! how robust the X is!! the blazer looks like it hit a wall, while the X has minor damages in comparison!! those Xs are real tough, huh??
|
"The only things messed up were the exhuast which was a little crooked"
a mechanic i know said a simple things like that to a x5 can effect up front where the exhaust goes to the engine, make sure they look at that .. it pushes something somewhere it shouldnt be, i forgot that part but that picture is almost exactly what he showed me one day at his shop. actually your exhaust is in further then what i saw... glad you are okay , i hate those trucks lol |
Yeah,
Get it checked out thouroughly from front to back (underneath). Make sure all rear light fittings are functioning ok as well. Could have been a lot worse plus both of you walked away, so all's good, sort of. Quote/ bgsquad: those Xs are real tough, huh?? Reminds me of an English cop show I saw on cable a few months back where these 2 cops were chasing a stolen X5 (I think a 4.4). Cops were in an unmarked Subaru WRX. They caught up to the WRX at a set of traffic lights and without any warning the X5 driver slams it into reverse from about 10 - 15 feet and smashes into the cops. He goes right up over the bonnet then shoves it in Drive and takes off like nothing happened. The cops tries to chase him but had to stop after a few hundred yards. WRX was spilling liquids, it was smoking really bad, all lights were broken and had the front end totally reshaped etc. Suffice to say they lost the X5 which just drove off into the night (at warp 9, mind you) with what appeared to be not much more damage than what you got. So yeah, these X5's a real bloody tough. GL with repairs. |
Quote:
yeah, that's what i'm afraid of. I hope the exhaust didn't go in so far that it hit parts of the engine. I love this X... almost 7 years with no problems at all (including tranny and engine). So I hope this accident doesn't change that. |
These X's are really tough... and i thought american cars were supposed to be tough. Must stick with Bimmers.

Askhao, you joined around the same time when this happened to me:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ident-nws.html Well the insurance sure took a long time to do everything but in the end it all worked out. The guy that hit me had State Farm insurance. They originally wrote an estimate for $650 to have my bumper repaired. I protested to high heavens and I found this AWESOME shop that told me they'd do the legwork to have the rear bumper cover replaced. They did and in the meantime, State Farm authorized me to have a rental vehicle (Chevy Malibu) for the entire time my X was in the shop. But I wanted to say anybody in the NYC area looking for an EXCELLENT A1, A+++ shop should go to this shop. There was a 08 M5, an 08 M6 convertible, a Bentley Continental GT convertible, a rimmed up Range Rover, and a myriad of other high end vehicles crashed up and awaiting repair. And I was witness to a few of the finished products. I am a total paint/repair perfectionist dude and I can spot a respray a mile away. But not on one of these cars could I tell where the damage was. And they did a most excellent job on my X! The paint is A FACTORY FLAWLESS match! I love it and absolutely recommend them. I've almost been wishing somebody'd hit me in the front so I could have an excuse to remove my brush bar and not have to pay but we all know that can go very good or very VERY bad. I didnt take pics of the repaired bumper yet but I did take a pic of the car in front of the shop. If the guy in Jersey does the new cars damaged in transport, go for it. You should be able to ding her insurance for the rental.
These cars are fookin' insane. A guy in a Land cruiser rubbed my corner and his bumper popped off! All I had was a scratch in the paint that went through the primer, so I had the bumper replaced... |

I got rear ended and ended up with a sweet Remus system since my stock set up was bent and replacement money was included in the repairs. |
Quote:
will that place fix my exhuast as well? and replace with a different(maybe 4.8is)? :dunno: |
Quote:
lol. good idea. insurance companies make too much anyway. |

not if i go for a dinan exhaust;), but im guessing that would be too much. :dunno: i went to the claim center, and they will be sending me my first check for $1642. |
They told me they dont do aftermarket exhaust work. Ironically I asked specifically because I wanted to switch mine up too. But I know they'll put back whatever is stock.
But I 100% recommend them for any body work. They offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their work too. |

I got my remus From bavarian motor works (bavauto.com) for around $800 delivered, I added an x-pipe for like $140 at a custom shop (after the fact) and I'm very happy with the system. |

NO NO NO. DO NOT ACCEPT THE CHECK. Go to a qualified bodyshop of choice. C&D in NJ. I recommend Martino Auto Concepts in Glen Cove, NYC anyday however. Let THEM inspect your car and LET THEM DEAL WITH THE INSURANCE company direct. THIS IS YOUR RIDE AND YOU DESERVE to get it properly dealt with. Always let the bodyshop deal with the adjuster IMO. $1642 is way too low out the door $850 + for the rear bumper. Is it cracked or is it just paint. Bumper Support ? Rear PDC System (not looking at page 1 of your pics) Let the bodyshop figure it out between the adjustor and your car. Trust me on this one. It will work out better for a proper repair |
Quote:
but they said if the repairs cost over $1642, they will reimburse me.:dunno: |
it is to THEIR Benefit.
do you own due diligence but I would heed as advised and let bodyshop of choice work out all the fine details. Just one mans opinion but I would never deal direct with a insurance carrier.... |
If you plan to do mods -- alternative in place value of OEM parts for aftermarket, look up Impressive Auto Center.
I have not seen their work personally but they have a good reputation |
i got hit by a 52 sit Isuzu bus, while I was stationary and it hit me at 40 mph, quite amazingly the rear lower tailgate just got damaged and one right tail gate light, everything else was intact. Getting back my car Tuesday.... just amazing how strong this car is....
