Hello from a new member and some questions to start off

Hey All,
Just wanted to say hello and you guys have a great forum here for X owners. I have been lurking for a while and decided it was time to join.

I am actually picking up my new to my X5 next week ( 05 4.4 sport) and just had a question to start off.

The X5 has the upgraded sport 19" staggered setup currently. I was already thinking about a winter setup. What is the smallest size rim I can get? are 17"s too small for the sport?

17" rims will fit fine.

17" non-sport OEM wheels will work best. Thinner the better. Square setup will also help with rotation (if you agree with rotations).

17'' rims with snow tires will make your X5 run like Mountain Goat:thumbup:

:iagree:...oem 17s don't look catchy, but if you are running in serious
snow/winter conditions in CT, you will love what they do for you/your X.

They come up here for sale, on occasion, and are not pricey, as few
seem to want the 17 "look"; but, can not be beaten for winter grip
and go, imo.

perfect. I will keep my eyes open for the 17" oem wheels.

One more question for you guys.
The X5 is CPO but I am buying from private party so I have 2 more years of coverage.
Do you guys think the extended Maintenance package is worth the ~$1900. Brakes were just done along with some belts etc. We don't put alot of miles on our cars so I doubt it would need brakes in the next 2 years. Only thing it will need it the Inspection II. What do you guys think? Are there other maintenance items that can come up in the 4.4 between 45K - 65K miles?

psymon, based on your description of what's been "done" and the miles you intend
to drive, I would personally take a pass on the Ext Maint.: brake pads/rotors seem
to be the main "deal" of Ext Maint. An "inspection" list is available here and any
decent Indy can do it more thoroughly/less expensive, imo, if you really want one
done. Welcome to the Board and,

Look in this thread as a starter:

I personally did not find it worth it. You can source parts cheaper. However, if you really plan to have a full brake job within the extended maintenance frame, the price between covering it yourself vs. Extended maintenance is very close.

I see it this way. if you don't mind doing a bit of research finding an indy and souring your parts, don't buy it. if you are more "no hassle", buy it. It's a great program none-the-less.
