2001 X5 3.0 - Angel Eye Options + Part # Request

Hello All,

First, I want to thank everybody on this site. They have been such a great help in everything relating to my X. They were even able to diagnose pulley/belt problems from a video recording!. I just have two questions. Please consult the pictures for better idea. Please keep in mind, I am not very tech-savvy or mechanically-knowledgeable...

1) I want to upgrade my headlights to have Angel Eyes. What is the best bang-for-my-buck? Just get the halo's? or entire headlights?

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/t...90831-1937.jpg

2) What is this part #? The piece to the left and right of my license plate. I believe it is plastic... Where can I purchase it?

Thank you guys :D

*Angel Eye question solved. Part Number still needed.

Ebay..."CCFL Angel Eyes" w/ a black logo for the background, $55 shipped. Once you're ready to install them, the search button will be your best friend since its been done countless times and there are more than enough threads on how to do it.

m5james. Thank you for recommendations! I assume you mean one of these sellers? CCFL Angel Eyes x5, great deals on eBay Motors on eBay!

After searching for the directions, I think I am leaning towards Projecter 53? They seem to be plug and play and really close to OEM. There is a vendor by the name of JLevi that sells them? I do not think I would have the skill to "bake" my headlights and install the rings... firstly, I have never used an oven in my life. :(

Would the Projecter 53 be an easier install with better quality? Or am I just paying more for the same thing? :dunno:

Sorry for the replies w/o links, I was waiting for a table at Tuscano's and replying via my Treo.

Anyways, i'm just taking a wild shot in the wind at guessing that all of these aftermarket angel eyes kits on ebay are coming from RACING DASH ENTERPRISE LTD - Lamp, M3 Spoiler, El Products.

After seeing you post pics of your headlights, you're in the same boat as I am where you don't have projector headlights. This is a thread I started inquring about ebay projector headlights http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ngel-eyes.html ...good information and you'll be able to kill two birds w/ one stone.

ProjectorE53/Umshitzna are all probably buying and relabeling ebay parts also. Seems nowadays, someone in China or Taiwan is making all these aftermarket parts, then BMW specific suppliers are getting their hands on the stuff before it hits Ebay...just my .02. It seems short of specialized things like superchargers, modified engines and diffs that are made by mechanical shops, just about everything that is bolt-on can and will be found on ebay soon enough for 1/4-1/2 the price of these BMW "specialty" suppliers...just another .02.

m5james - That was quite the read. I am a bit more informed and am pretty decided for getting a plug and play. It seems ebay from the only seller (parasite?) seems to be my best choice?

Can someone confirm?

Get plug and play if what you say above is right..... because some things could go wrong (baking, melting...) then there is the ring install, wiring, taping in to your ECU box or other places to connect the wires. A piece of cake if you know what youre doing, otherwise it could give you a nightmare.....so I would just to be safe in your position just get a good set of headlights with AEs installed already an you will be good to :driver:

:iagree: But it seems it comes down to two brands? Projecter 53 or the Ebay one? :dunno:.... This is from the read from m5james's thread....

you know I never had any experience with either. I'm sure someone that has will buzz in.

This is certainly an abused subject, but hopefully, someone can point me to which I should purchase that is the best.... and without error codes!

Tleong 09-13-2009 05:05 PM

Just received the parts from Bavarian.... it was the improper part #... I have to return them. Can anyone help me with the correct part #? Thanks.

m5james 09-13-2009 08:01 PM

Use RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog, enter the last 7 of your VIN, then just search the dropdown menus. Ignore the prices as I have no idea how current they are, but it'll give you the part #'s you need specifically for your car if you enter the VIN # first. What did you decide on the headlights? I don't know if "parasite" is still the only seller or not (double check my thread post), but from what I remember, I think only one person had an issue where it had a fingerprint inside of the lens. Only thing I would recomment w/ any aftermarket ebay headlight like these is to consider running your own bead of clear caulking around the seams to make sure you don't get moisture problems. I'm not saying it will happen, but I've had it happen w/ even stock headlights after washing the motor and/or heavily spraying water around the headlights from rain, hosing down the car, etc. Keep us posted. Also, what is the thing you diagnosed from a video?

Tleong 09-13-2009 08:20 PM

m5james - I will try your advice with RealOEM.com, however I'm not sure what the part is even called :dunno:

I have decided definitively what headlights to go with, but I think after going to the Stamford meet later this month, I'll get better idea. With talented minds and patron, surely a great idea will arise .

The video I posted back was indeed the pulley/belt problem. Unfortunately, I ordered both pulleys and forgot the belt :(. My mechanic ordered a belt for me, and the noise is gone. :(

m5james 09-13-2009 08:34 PM

I have no idea what the part is called either, but that site is an online microfiche, so just look around under bodyparts and just keep checking around till you find it. It's an easy site to use.
