How High of Mileage X5 should I go with

This forum is a great resource..been searching and learning all kinds of good info. I have finally decided to pursue an X5 over a 5er. I'm found a great looking 2006 X5 with 41,000 miles. Its CPO'd and they are asking 29,995. I'm really trying to find one with about 20-30K miles for under 30K. Is 41K going to give me issues? I want to avoid getting a higher mileage used vehicle and then have all kinds of checks due etc.

41K miles is not high for any BMW. I have 100K on mine.

41k isnt bad at all. that price is very decent . which model is it? the 3.0 or the 4.4? plus being a cpo i think its okay

bought mine with with 150,000 k ... no worries. Just make sure you have good service records and all the big stuff was done.

Just bought a 2006 3.0 with 42k miles on it for $ 25,500 out the door . Am very happy with it and no problems so far as it was well maintained , so my advice is to make sure the previous owner has all records of work that was done it and all the major things up to date .

I would say the mileage isn't a factor; as others have said it depends on how it was treated during those 41k mi. As an '06 it should have about a year left on the original warranty, which includes mx (and "big checks"). As a pilot (if I'm interpreting your sig correctly), there's a chance you won't put 9k on before the time expires if you do multi-day trips. After that of course with CPO you don't need to worry about the big things for 2 more years. You can get the extended mx for about $3k before you hit 50k if you don't want to worry about that either. I opted out of that because I have an independent mech I've been taking my cars to for years, and feel I will come out ahead.

Bought an 06 x5 3.0 with 35K miles this weekend.. cpo... car looks brand new, 1yr left on full warranty and remaining 2years are cpo. Just hope anythign major happens within the warranty period.

I agree. Mileage is not a big concern. I bought mine at 92K miles and runs like its 25K miles. Remember, having a low mileage car doesn't mean it's less problematic than a 100K mile one.

Cheers,
Mark

Another Recent Purchase

2006 4.4
Sport Package
Premium Package
Rear Climate Package
Cold Weather Package
NAV
Lease return according to Carfax
20,500 miles (I, too, was looking for 40K or under)
Asking $36,995
Paid $34,995

It seemed like a very good deal to me. But, I see many posts talking about the low 30's. I also found the ranges to vary depending on if it is being sold by a BMW dealer or other, i.e. the dealer range seemed very tight at least in the Los Angeles market.

thanks for the great information! I figured that 41K is not much in the mileage dept. I feel that the CPO will give me a good piece of mind for awhile. As for the extended warranty..is that something I have to get when buying the vehicle or will I have up until 50K mileage wise to opt for it? Is it worth it? 3K sounds pretty steep for a warranty. Hopefully it wouldn't be that restrictive?

At the time I'm looking at a 2006 3.0L. I hope to negotiate a bit with the dealers.
