Thanks for those trying to be helpful. I do appreciate that there are a lot of genuine people here.

Weasel raises a great point about warranty, as I still have warranty would need to think through. For those that took the time to look at feedback from the seller (rather than just making a joke out of my original question), there are a number saying that it made a great difference on other vehicles - as well as some who said it didn't, hence my reason for asking re the X5. Also thanks to mrbmwx5, there are certainly some strong supporters for the sprint booster. So even though it is more expensive, sounds like a better piece of kit.

These types of items are usually a simple resistor that replaces a certain sensor's feedback. For example, in motorcycling world, most of the new bikes have a timing retard built into them that usually only works in lower gears ( to comply with noise/pollution regulations), so a 'timing retard eliminator' or a TRE can be installed that takes care of that problem. The TRE is either a resistor or simply a short circuit to ground, depending on the bike/etc.

One of the feedbacks on this guy's ebay account says 'I can't find the oxygen sensor'... this kinda tells me that this product perhaps replaces the oxygen sensor's resistance with a value that shows either too much oxygen (causing ECU to add more gas to the mixture to recover), or too little oxygen (causing ECU to reduce the gas to mixture) ... niether of the situations are desirable in the long run.

Also, when someone's english is as poor as this seller's, I usually start to doubt their technical knowledge. (Anyone detailed enough to come up with a GOOD product, will be detailed enough to make sure their ebay ad is worded properly.)

I would pass on this if I were you.

Come on Mozzie... We're just kidding with you. I'm sure no one means anything by their comments.

To your question, if you want any more performance, look up www.Dinancars.com. At least anything you add to your X will not void the warranty. ANYTHING ELSE runs the risk of screwing up your X for you.

There are supporters and non-supporters of the Sprint Booster. My only caution would be that you appear to be comparing it to an eBay device that claims to increase power. Whether those devices on eBay do that or not, the Sprint Booster doesn't increase power, or claim to. It changes the response of the gas pedal, that's it.

Retard eliminator, hmmm. I could have used that many times in my life!!!

You also need to be wary of feedback shown on sellers because some sellers have been known to plant positive feedback about their service and products. I always try to check the seller out with a search of their company.

I have gotten some real deals on ebay, but also had one that the product wasn't good and they had great reviews. Returned it 3 times for replacement and then gave up and got my money back.

Stereotype - so should I assume Aussies are sensitive and can't take a joke? I also own a Chevy Blazer, Suzuki TL1000R and a 740iL - does that also make me white trash, a biker punk and a guy who's well off? All I'm trying to say that, even in your own words, if its too good to be true, then it usually is. If you want performance mods, get software from someone like www.powerchipgroup.au or $$Dinan$$.
