Negative Camber
Hi all,
Anyone know the correct negative camber for the 4.6iS? What symptoms are there if there's too much negative camber? I notice the inner side of the rear tires are worn quite a bit more than the outer side, both sides are about the same. And looking from about 4-5 meters from the back, it looks there's quite a bit of negative camber. Although it looks kinda cool, I want to make sure it's safe and within the spec. My car was lowered with the H&R springs kit by about 1" front (springs) and back (links). 10mm spacers for the front and 25mm for the rear. Thanks in advance for any suggestion.. |
You have to set your rear camber to .5-1.0degrees for the best wear. You also have to adjust your toe, that will cause inner wear more

The normal range is anywhere between -1.0 - 1.5 degrees. I have mine at 1.5 degrees front and back (using dinan plates up front) for better handling in the turns at the cost of tire wear. Also when you lower the vehicle it adds more negative camber, which is the main cause for the better handling rather than the lower stance. After altering the suspension like when lowering, it is strongly recommended to have an alignment done to bring back into specs and even it out.
But regardless of how fresh the alignment, on sport tuned vehicles with independent rear suspension, the tires will wear faster on the inside no matter what. |
Yup agree I freaked out when I saw the wear on my rears, anyhow had the camber taken out, and the inner sides are not wearig that much any longer, no idea if performance altered cannot tell a difference....

Thanks guys. I did have the alignment done right after installing the lowering kit and spacers.
Apart from the wearing more on the inner side, I don't feel any suspicious vibration or noises, and it's handles is still superb. So I think the negative camber is still within the spec. I might just get the tires swapped to get more milage from the tires and buy some time. Thanks again. |
Did the tires swap this morning. The rear tires are definitely out and needs replacing.
Really disappointing as I only did about 15k km on these tires (Yokohama Advan ST). What tires do you guys use? Thinking of going back to Michelin Pilot Sports |

I had 47k on the original set, but the rear were showing inside wear down to the cord. |
Had another look at the front tires. They look to be perfectly fine and still got some life to go. So in order to save cost after having just rebuilt the tranny last week, I might just get a pair of Advan ST to replace the rear only for now, and get the alignment checked again.

The camber in the rear was -2.9* each side. They have been adjusted to the max and are now 2.0* and 1.9*.
Alignment should help out... |

I was going to take Weasel's suggestion of 1.5. |
