Noise coming from front of engine at idle
 

2002 E53 automatic trans. 95,000 miles

I have a starnge noise that started about a month ago. It is coming from the front of the engine at idle 700-900 rpm. as soon as you give it the least bit of gas it goes away. I sounds a little bit like a a worn belt squeal but, don't they normally get louder as you accelerate?

Could it be the water pump? again wouldn't it get louder as you accelerate? Power steering pump? I don't want to take it to the dealer yet...

any thoughts on what to investigate?

I believe that is it. Mine has a little more squeal but, its close. Thanks I will start there. The cost seems reasonable.
