intro - new 05 4.4

Hi Gang,
Just replaced my Durango with the X5, 40k on the clock. Can't believe I put up with the ride of a Durango for so long. I tow occasionally so I needed something that could pull a car. Thanks for all the resources, allready replaced a rear speaker grill and installed the tow hitch. Need to finish up with the brake controller and update the NAV.

I am active in the BMW CCA and can hopefully contribute as well along the way.

Congrats! I am thinking about purchasing one SOON as well! Do you mind me asking what you paid? Just trying to get a feel...Also did you go the CPO route?

I paid 22k, blk on blk, sport, premium, nav, heated seats f/r, heated steering wheel : ) rear air bag, rear climate, winter package, new tires, not sure what else. It did have the busted speaker grill ($30)and a nasty scratch on the rear passenger door. I have an entrusted auto body guy I will bring it to. It also has/had a noise from the passenger side exhaust under hard acceleration. Pretty much cleared up when I lowered the exhaust to install the hitch, so I'm guessing gasket or heat shield. I was not too concerned and used these things when negotiating against asking price. I purchased from a private owner. No extended warranty... BMW dealer wants 4-6k for extended warranty depending on duration. Maint warranty was around 2.5k. I'm going to roll the dice and take a pass. Of course... on the way to work this morning inactive air susp warning came up. Quick search here looks like it is nothing to worry about. Cleared when I restarted the engine.

Warrantee may be a good idea, seeing as though most issues seem to happen between 50 and 80k. I know all cases are different, but I bought mine as CPO, and the warrantee saved me from spending upwards of $10k on repairs. Now I'm just keeping up with basic maintenance, and knock on wood, it seems all the big jobs are done

sounds like a good deal! just remember that the suspension (at least the rear) is air, and can get pricey with any repairs. Trans seems to also be a weak point of this car.

I got mine CPO for a piece of mind. Since an extended warranty is still available, you may want to look into buying it if you put a lot of miles per year.

I wouldn't get the Maintenance program.

Thanks for the info JS...Sounds like a nice deal.

I am looking at a nice 2004 with 43K on it. Sport, NAV, Pano etc. Clean carfax, etc. No warranty. Asking $19900. We'll see when I see it!
