Time for a few modifications, help needed please.
Hi Everyone, first post.
I've had my 3.0D (2004) for 3 years and love it, but things are starting to deteriorate, so it's time to spend some money and make a few mods. First issue I'm having is unworking park distance controllers, so will be taking it into the local dealership on Monday for checking out. However, after reading some posts here, I'd like to get a reversing cam set up. I have the DVD Nav with the cassette player, phone thingy and 6 stack CD. Questions: 1. Is there any 'plug and play' stuff out there for wiring a reverse cam into the Nav screen? Is there anything that will take other forms of input and display video onto the navscreen ... perhaps the vga from a mini computer or DVD player? 2. I need an audio input for my MP3 player, currently using one of the cassette tapes with a cable to the headphones. I understand there's a BMW ipod connection but that replaces the 6 stack. What else can I do to get audio into the system from external sources. 3. I've been reading about performance chips. The marketing makes them sound like some magic bullet. Is that hype or do they really work without screwing up the magic BMW already put in there? Thanks for any help. PS. I'm in Slovenia, so have good access to European sources of products, not so easy to import US stuff. Edit to add: forgot to mention, my GPS DVD player has quit reading DVD's and now only reads CD's. Anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I have reflashed the ROM to v32 |
Lots of views but no replies. Will bump just one time in case the thread was missed by anyone that can offer help. Thanks.

I'll provide my opinion on your #3. Performance chips in a gasser are a waste of money. If it's a diesel, that's different. ENORMOUS gains are made by chipping or tuner boxing a diesel.
OOOPSS!! On edit, I just noticed you DO have a diesel!! Yeah, chip it! LOL Though I'm unfamiliar with how Bimmer computers will (or won't), accept the change. |
Thanks for the reply. I guess the next question would be to ask for specific recommendations re chips/software etc.

For #2, there's an AUX option that BMW makes that will let you keep the CD Changer. Search this site for more info on it.
