Two possible (unconfirmed) problems that might be related to this mod:
1) one side of the rear air suspension leaked, had both side replaced and so far so good (the old ones looked pretty worn out)
2) the inner side of the rear tires worn out way faster than normal. No sure if it's the alignment / balancing problem, although I did have them done after lowering.

how much did it cost you to have the air suspension replaced?

No, the air suspension was not "replaced". It's just the "links" that was replaced with the shorter ones which were part of the H&R lowering kit.

The links look like these, except that the H&R ones are not adjustable.

Thanks guys. mrbmwx5, it seems like you didn't need anything special to set the camber back to spec afterwards. That is good news.

Did you do the spring change yourself or have a shop do it?

mrbmwx5 09-23-2009 04:36 PM

I do all the mods and maintenance myself.
After i lower the car i have my guy at the dealer do the re- alignment for me.

thanks. I try to do as much as I can myself, but have never dealt with suspension parts before. I am thinking of paying a shop to do this for me. (If I didn't have a 3 year old daughter that wants to spend every second of our time together, and didn't have a wife that hates it when I spend time in the garage, I would have more than likely taken care of this mod on my own as well. :D)

mrbmwx5 09-23-2009 05:12 PM

Let me tell you some thing.... For this mod you will be looking to spend about $700 for parts and labor.

My installer used some different camber bolts he had laying around to get the right camber. The rear(air springs) I made some links to drop it about 2 inches so my camber is way off. My insides wore out in 8 months and have now been flipped on the rim. Once I wear them out again I'm getting new rear tires and installing the KMAC rear camber kit. Since you probably won't be that low in the back you should be able to keep it in spec. So far I love the look and ride although given the money I would have opted for the coilovers in a heartbeat!

INKY hi, the camber bolts, on my x5 i cannot get the rear camber to 0 degrees, it is currently at -01.77 degrees, I WANT 0 or near 0 camner to minimize tire wear, will the camber bolts solve not being this?
