Is nav screen supposed to dim at night?

Just picked up a 2005 4.8is. I've searched the board and seen vague answers. Is the navigation screen supposed to dim at night and/or when the headlights are on? I know there is a brightness setting in the menu but don't want to adjust it manually every night.

I don't think there is a night mode per se from the factory.

The nav screen does not dim at night. However, when adjusting the brightness of the interior (gauges, button lighting, ambient lighting, etc), the screen adjusts.

To adjust the interior lights, there's a knob right above the fog light button that scrolls up and down

Thanks for the replies. That confirms what I suspected. I have been using that method of dimming the whole interior, just easier than going into the menu etc..

No it stays the same. I had an E39 M5 with basically the same screen but can't remember if that used to dim.

I have the same gripe. That screen is waaaay too bright at night, even when dimming the gauges.
