Wheel lock 'Cap covers'

the BMW wheel locks come with plastic 'cap covers' with the BMW logo that go over the wheel lock. one of mine fell off. can they be purchased separately?? :dunno:

Are you taking about the roundel that goes in the center of the wheel? If so I think you can get them off ebay: BMW Roundel Chrome Wheel Center Caps set of 4 OEM:eBay Motors (item 120473025876 end time Oct-23-09 14:35:43 PDT)

Or the dealer has them should be pretty cheap.

mtX5 09-29-2009 12:54 PM

no, they cover the actual wheel lock lug nut.

rayxi 09-29-2009 02:38 PM

Yes, you can get them at the dealer. I got them for free at my dealer when I picked up some other parts that I ordered.

sethro 09-29-2009 03:02 PM

I'm totally lost. I have wheel locks as well but I have never seen anything that covers the wheel lock nut. Even a google search turns up nothing.

Post a pic of what it looks like, I think I might be missing all four:boogie:

rayxi my dealer isn't so nice, but i'll try. just incase is there somewhere they can be ordered online (do they have a part #?)
otherwise i'm sure the dealer would sell it..

and sethro i'll take a pic for you. you might have not noticed it because it looks like the rest of the lug nuts, but with a bmw logo on it, and when you pull at it, it pops off (plastic).

Part number is 36136752592 and they are around a buck a piece.

I didn't just walk up to the counter and ask for a freebie. I was paying for about $400 worth of parts when I causually mentioned I was missing 2 of the caps. The parts manager put 4 caps in my hand and said "have a nice day!".

mtX5 09-29-2009 03:58 PM

haha i put a few hundred to a thousand a month on repairs with them they should give me a new X and say have a nice day LOL!

thanks for the part number

dkl 09-29-2009 04:55 PM

They're about .50 to 1 buck a piece at the dealer...not worth it to even try to find it cheaper online ;) My wheel lock set never came with these and I never bother to ask the dealer for them as I would know that they will eventually fall off anyway.

mtX5 09-29-2009 07:12 PM

yeah i'm going to pick one up from the dealership when i get the chance.

they actually don't fall off.. I've had mine on for a year with no issues. when I got new tires and they removed my wheels I guess the guy either forgot to put it back on or didnt pop it on right..so its gone.

They tend to get loose as you remove them to change a tire and then fall off while you are driving and people that buy used BMW's sometimes never get to see them because they are already lost, I got tired of buying them and forgot about them, some come with BMW lettering others just plain. Here's the pic and part #

I remember this issue being discussed some time ago. If I remember right XMeister offered 2 types of lock nut cover caps, with links. Can't find them at present though, sorry.
Below is a close up of mine. GL Moh

Thanks for the picture. Yeah I checked my wheels all of the lock nut covers were missing. I don't ever remember seeing them either. Looks like another trip to the dealer for me:stickpoke

Hey, I want some! I had no idea that I was missing them. Are they chrome or black? I've never noticed them on other X's.

Mine and a few others that I've seen are black, the cap is made of hard plastic. I often knock one off when washing the rims, somehow though they stay on no matter what the speed and or conditions.
