Teasers of a one of a kind lighting project

A customer of ours is working with us on a one of a kind projector conversion into his pre-facelifted headlights.

We retrofitted the face lifted OEM angel eye system into these pre-facelifted headlights. Not sure if anyone has done this before, but it was a challenging task! Foruntately it all worked out :)

We implanted a TSX projector into the high beam which will be using a 3000K (yellow) 55w HID system. The original low beam area was retrofitted with a TFX Bixenon projector. This is the main projector system for his truck. It acts as a low and high beam projector, and will be using a 4300K (oem color temp) 55w system. He will also be running a 3000K fog light system. Both of these setups will be on custom switches under the dash. The OEM angel eye system will be wired into the ignition so anytime the car is one, the angel eyes will be on. We should be doing the installation within a week or so. So I will be sure to keep you posted.

Just curious why you would choose the dim OEM rings over brighter aftermarket offerings? Or even the brighter e70 OEM rings?

X Foomph 10-02-2009 05:26 AM

I'm also interested in seeing these puppies installed and up n running.
LWerkz, any idea of costings??

We just do as the customer pleases :)

I honestly think it provides an OEM look, with a modern twist ;) I personally love it and I think it was a great choice. You dont see many pre face lift E53's with these OEM type angel eyes.

hi all -

I was the one who commissioned Lightzwerkz for this headlight mod. It all started when I was on Ebay looking online at taillight replacements and came across a set of ~openable~ facelift headlights that I was able to procure and that is what started this whole project.

From there, it took alot of research with some luck thrown in, but I was able to procure a set of facelift E53 rings as well. I have watched since ~refugee~ days the mods of headlights including the infancy of the 1st E53 headlight mod when it started with Mobile Innovations. One thing that bothered me was always the size of the AE ring in relation to the headlight projector / housing itself. The luck of being able to source facelift AE rings was what really finished this headlight project from top to bottom and I am super happy with the way they came out sofar. I am not a big fan of 5K colored rings, and all of the LED/CCFL products on the market is just not my cup of tea. Having a Quad Projector setup with OEM AE ring's is definitely a one-off mod but still keeping it inline with having it look ~clean~ in my eyes.

I stumbled across Lightwerkz by sheer timing as well and I learned something new in this process. There is a whole market of Light Retrofitters out there. I never even knew a industry like this existed.

Luckily for me, Lightwerkz is in the area, and I was able visit his shop, talk live and I had to drop off some parts during this retrofitting and was able to see the work in progress. Communication is KING, and I was always kept up to date on any progress updates as the mod went along.

For those interested in any headlight modifications or any lighting needs, I have no hesitiation recommending Lightwerkz. They can be contacted via email direct at [email protected], (973)-767-2014 and their website is

For all you local NYC’ers out there, Lightwerkz is located in Clifton, NJ fwiw.

LightWerkz 10-06-2009 09:25 AM

The amber was blacked out to match the rest of the paint and the lenses were fully reconditioned to look new again.

that's why you are my hero! when I saw the oem style AE's on your M3 I had to have the same.

Can't wait to see the light output on these!

LightWerkz 10-09-2009 10:04 AM

Here are the installed pics for you guys.

I want to thank our customer (Alan) for working with us. This has been by far the most detail oriented & labor intensive project we have taken over the past few years. Total labor hours is close to 40 hours! The wiring harness was specfically designed for this car with the intention of looking like a factory installed wiring harness. It controls the both sets of "fog" lights, as well as the "always on" angel eye wiring. In any case on to the good stuff :)

A BIG THANKS TO LightWerkz for their incredible job on this MOD

No detail was spared on the craftsmanship of these headlights down to the last piece of heatshrink on the wire harness.

As far as light output, all I can is WOW. This whole project just started as a simple MOD idea that grew into what you see now. The light output alone on just the standard driving Xenon projectors 55W HID kit is incredible. The intensity is super bright yet focused and the width is amazing. I'm all about SAFETY 1st, and LOVE the rear fog light mod for inclement weather. Now with the 3K Hids, it will cut like a hot butter knife in bad weather as well.

Thanks Caesar and Jay.

Looks fantastic. Wonder if Santa could drop off some of those puppies for me.
Total cost please??

mtX5 10-15-2009 08:04 PM

wow!! truely unique and one of a kind. looks very good i'm glad it all went smooth and worked out well. take care of those headlights! get some lamin-x or some other protective film on them

on to the next

J.Belknap 10-15-2009 08:14 PM

UCrewX5 10-15-2009 11:14 PM

Amazing piece of engineering and craftsmanship. Nicely done, for sure!!

TheGodfather 10-16-2009 04:40 PM

Impressive.

But I am not a fan of the ridges circling the two projector lenses.

m5james 11-11-2009 02:44 AM

Cool idea, but the fitment of the highbeam angel eyes suck w/ that gap. I installed some of those $53 ebay angel eyes in Sobi's X5 and they we're a perfect fit w/ maybe a 1/8th of gap at most all the way around and you don't have the ugly black shrink wrapped ends where the angel eye wiring is.

Any comment on the cost for this upgrade, or is this a cost-prohibitive one time thing since it took them almost 40hrs.

Dannyell 11-11-2009 02:51 AM

A smoked turn signal waffle would fit even better IMO

X5X 11-25-2009 12:04 PM

Great idea, best OEM headlight transformation yet:thumbup:
I think you should get projector fog lights to match the rest of your lights.

chefwong 10-10-2010 05:56 PM

For anyone of interest, FREE OEM angel rings and OEM fiber optic leads/bulb holder. No bulbs. Doing a little cleanup. If anyone has any real interest/need in them, PM me. Offer valid for those that really do have a ~intent~ to use them.

m5james 10-10-2010 06:36 PM

I just noticed that your foglights aren't projectors...I don't think I've ever seen them like that before.

tonggi 08-05-2011 11:51 AM

Caesar will be hooking me up with this kit very very soon!!! Yay!

I will be posting up pictures.

Naz24 08-05-2011 11:53 AM

hey lightwerkz,

can u make it so that my 2004 X5 uses the Angel eyes as DRL?
