Where's the Engine Number?
 

Hi all!

I need to find my engine number. It's a requirement here in Manila to have a stencil of your chassis number and engine number.

It is on the side of the engine block. Here is a link for the 3.0 six cylinder; the V8 won't be identical but it will be similar.

Well, I had the X5 raised in a lifter yesterday but there was no way that I could see the engine number through the cover. Does this mean I need to remove the cover under the engine to get to the engine number? Has anyone done this before?

I would expect that you have to remove the lower tray, since it covers just about everything.

On the diesel I had the same question, it is very hard to see as the area involved tends to rust over...as you look down on the engine it is on the right hand side near the dipstick....but you have to get your head real deep in there and remove the plastic engine cover so you can get a troch in there too......
