facelift projector fogs

I found these on ebay.... Made by depot. They look like they are good quality pieces. He's saying that they will fit facelifted X's.... Has anyone purchased these? Or am I gonna have to be a guinea pig on this one...

Hey there,
Not qualified to answer on suitability, they do look good though and price would be heaps cheaper (I'd imagine) than OEM.

Good luck getting into that guinea pig outfit

So, compared to the stock fogs, are these brighter or the same? Is the light a blue tint or show white when illuminated? Thanks.

lemans4.8 10-09-2009 03:53 PM

it's just a projector housing. It will still be halogen, but can easily be upgraded to HID without the huge glare issues with non-projector housings

The reason I asked is because inthe pic, they look like they have a blue tint. Otherwise, and even if they are blue, they look great. Let us now if you do purchase them and provide pics when installed.

lemans4.8 10-11-2009 05:36 PM

i think/hope that's just the flash from the camera.... I'll ask.

lemans4.8 10-14-2009 10:15 AM

The projector lenses are clear. I went ahead and purchased them. I'll let you guys know!

They should fit just fine, the only thing I'm concerned about is the fog light cover fitting over the glass. The harness and the plug are exactly the same. Wondering why didn't BMW put early style (projector) fogs in the facelifted X's....

lemans4.8 10-22-2009 12:54 PM

They came in last night! They are very, very high quality!! I am very surprised by the quality of them. They seem like OEM but a little better. It actually uses a philips-head metal screw for the height adjustment, instead of the plastic screw on OEM. They fit perfectly in the housing and the cover sits on them quite nicely. The only problem I have is the plug. The facelift X5's use an H11 bulb and the plug goes directly into the bulb. On the projector fogs (pre-facelift before 10/2003 production), an H3 bulb is used and then the wires go to a male plug, so that the bulb and housing are completely sealed. However, this male plug has horizontal pins, where's the H11 bulb (can be considered a male plug i guess) has vertical. (picture below)

I tried rotating the blade/pin terminals in the female H11 plug (plug from car) but they would not go in sideways.

Anyone have any ideas on what I could do? I was thinking about going to BMW and purchasing the plugs from a pre 10/2003 and seeing if the blades/pin terminal would go in the correct way

All you need to do is simple rewiring, not worth going to the dealership. Very cool., although I wish they were H11.

lemans4.8 10-22-2009 01:13 PM

Care to elaborate on what to rewire?

lemans4.8 10-25-2009 10:26 AM

what simple rewiring should be done?

lemans4.8 10-30-2009 08:58 AM

I went by the dealer and picked up some OEM wiring harnesses from a 2002 X5. Now I just have to cut off the original plugs and attach the new ones and everything should work out.

P/N's are:
Universal socket housing uncoded 61 13 8 373 332
in conjunction with --BUSHING CONTACT 61 13 0 007 256

LightWerkz 12-17-2009 05:42 PM

Any pics and a review of the product?

lemans4.8 12-17-2009 07:04 PM

didn't take pics but they are working and all is good!

these part numbers are for the ellipsoid/projector foglights, you will need to crimp them onto the car wiring - cut off the original plug and splice in these...

you will need 2 0f the 332 part and 4 of the 256 part

Clockwork 04-13-2013 03:25 PM

thanks Term X. hugely appreciate it.
I've ordered a few sets of depo brand projectors and tried a few different hid bulbs in them and never do I get anything that resembles a useful beam/cut off, so i'm just gonna use 55w h3 bulbs, like factory came with.
too bad no hid kits ive installed worked. seems the bulbs are too long for housing and therefore do not illuminate correctly behind the projector and cut offs are so ugly its worse than you can imagine.
oh well. projector halogens are still very good. maybe more than the hid's I currently have in my reflector fogs currently.

edit: shoot, so sorry to waste your time, I just noticed the p/n's were in post 12. I must have been so sleepy last night when reading this thread and missed it, or just didn't load cause my laptop was acting up. My bad.

pap smear 04-13-2013 03:28 PM

you can try h3c bulbs

TerminatorX5 04-13-2013 03:33 PM

no biggy deal - we all have senior moments... lol...

just in case if you ever decide to go back to free-form halogen foglights, the part numbers for the sockets:
61136907388 - you will need 2 of these
and the pins are
61130007272 - you will need 4 of these

Term X, I'm gonna try to be a smarty pant and instead of cutting the current free form fog light harness, I've created a "cross over" wire section which has an H11 female end and the other end will be the new harness for the ellipsoid fog lamps. so i'm creating an externsion cord really.

I just need to track down some harnesses on e-bay as the local dealer wants $67 for all 6 parts. horrible

Clockwork 04-17-2013 12:16 AM

cost comparison from Canada and ststes:
Calgary BMW = $71 for the 4 wires and 2 connectors
Gault BMW (NY state) = $13 for same 4 wires and 2 connectors.

Gault, thank you.
