Brake Lining Warnin Message
 

2002 X5 4.4 with 113k mi,

Does anyone know what to do after I have installed new rotors, pads, and relplcaed brake wear sensors and had the light reset but the light keeps returning on the dash..."check brake linings.?"

Key on for 30 seconds then restart the car. if the warning lamp still comes on, then check the pad sensors front and rear.

Did this work? I tried it and it still came on. I may just go to the indy shop and have it reset...

They will reset it the same way. If it stays on, it means one or both of the sensors are bad, or the connection is bad. An open circuit shows up as a warning light.

x5guy, did you get this figured out? i'm haing the same issue. just had brakes done, and the check linings light came on after a week. took it back to mechanic and they put a "false" sensor in just to see if the message would reappear. if it did, it's likely not the sensor. well today, 2 weeks after they out in false sensor, the message came back. argh!

Ask them to put a brand new sensor not reusing the old one (the old one is not reusable after you got a warning on the dash).

It wasn't the old sensor, otherwise the light wouldn't have gone off at the start.

Your mechanic was right to suggest that if it comes back on after a period of being off, it isn't likely the sensor. IMO you have a wiring problem somewhere after the sensor. An open circuit causes the light to come on.

Probably damaged the connections when pulling the old ones off. Check for dirt or debris in the plugs as well. I was using needle nose pliers to pull mine off and they slipped, barely pulling out a wire. Purchased a new one and everything is working.

they did use a new sensor. i reset the light via the ignition as killcrap said, but it came back after 2 days. then i rest again and brake linings light turned off and selflevel susp inactive came on. not sure if they are related or isolated. argh!
