Sorry one more stereo question
So I have 06 4.8is, with nav DSP. Does anywone have any suggestions for upgrade
1.) BSW stage 1 speaker upgrade---is it worth it, how much difference or do you just try fit in JL speakers or something 2.) For Sub woofer---BSW or JL stealth box----or custom shallow box....alll same price installed roughly $1800 CAD except BSW slightly cheaper? 3.) Or custom stereo whole thing, JL shallow sub, JL mids, tweets, cleans sweep, JL amps.....But run risk of vehicle getting raped? 4.) Should I wait till warranty ends? 5.) Anyone,,,, I mean anyone in Canada, Alberta, even closer Calgary have any of thes upgrads I would love to hear it for myself???? IMO the factory DSP is like a 5 out of 10 and I want at least 8 9 out of 10. I do like heavy bass music ie hip hop... SOrry to ask this again but any advice? Thank you so much |
Well, if you want an 8 out of 10 or higher you'll want better components than JL.
Morel, Hybrid Audio, etc. is where you are headed w/Zapco or some other high end amp driving them. BSW is nice plug and play but won't get you to 8+ either from what I understand. The X5 is tricky b/c the input signal to the amp remains constant as the amp output is changed via a seperate signal. Can't just clip the wires and install an aftermarket amp/speakers via a regular line out converter. Check with Tom at 12velectronics.com Might get more ideas after searching in the audio (mobile electronics) part of xoutpost too... |
I think we have a morel dealer here in calgary, Thank you so much for your input,,,,I am so tempted to just buy BSW but i am guesing they are just above the factory stereo (6.5 out of 10) and I am after a 8 or better..

Look for elduderino's threads on sound systems for the X5 over on Bimmerforums.com (or maybe he did some here, I forget). Guy knows his stuff on this. |
ya i kinda figured it would be involved i have had some quotes on jL mids, alpine amp, JL shallow 13" sub and JL amp and it was around $4300 installed but it was from a bigbox store called visions and I dont trust them yet..as I still have warranty...Ill search elduderinos. thanks again any advice helps, as this will cost a lot of money

You can greatly improve the sound and still keep your stock amp. First "must do" is to replace your stock sub woofer and add a sub amp. The DSP stock sub is pitiful. You will already see a huge difference by getting real deep/profound bass. If you are handy you can do the sub woofer upgrade yourself (see link #1 below). You can even reuse the stock subwoofer case rather than buying one and fit a single 8 or even 10" subwoofer (check the depth of it first though) speaker in it (see link #2 below) . If you are not that handy then my advise would be to go with the BSW subwoofer kit. Then next step if you still want more is to upgrade your speakers. But as said earlier in the X5 audio system (and most other BMW for that matter) each speaker gets its dedicated frequency from the stock amp and on top of that some of the speakers (e.g. door woofers) are 8 ohm impedance and not 4 ohm like in all other cars's system, don't ask me why. Therefore you cannot just pick any after market speaker. Starting by upgrading the midranges will make the most significant improvement to the sound. BSW stage one upgrade is excellent. I replaces the sub, add a sub amp and installed BSW stage 1 on my X few years ago and I have been enjoying the result since.

That is very detailed thankyou for taking the time to reply. Oh how I wish I could hear a BSW upgrade before buying one...it seems the easiest and safest sine I have warranty however I have never given 8' subs that much credit always thought you need at least a ten.
I listen to a lot of hip hop so I like base. IMO I think the stock setup is about a 6 out of ten with a ten being a mirror rattling bass...I just want like a 8 out of ten. Anyone in Canada.....calgary have stereo upgrades on there X5s? |
alpac--did you use the BSW sub replacement or something else?
|
sorry stupid question. I read your posts......HOw the 10' sound in the factory box? enough volume? JL audio make a "shallow" 10" I wonder if the stock box has enough volume?
