2005 X5 Phone Options

I am confused...I have a 2005 X5 4.4i with Premium Package and BMW assist....what are my options for an integrated phone?

Is there a Bluetooth module that can be installed? Do I then have to have a certain phone?

Is there a non-Bluetooth way for me to integrate my cell phone with the vehicle - such as a cradle? And will this also only work with certain phones?

Thanks, I am perplexed by the research I have done.

My 2005 came with bluetooth. I use an iPhone.

if you have bmw assist, you have bluetooth, if you have a malfunctioning TCU, you will not have bluetooth. if you wish to purchase a cradle, you will need a eject box.

on my 2006 8.06 production with BMW assist.

i purchased the following

84 10 9 168 940 Eject Box Newest
84 10 9 205 271 Adapter Cable female to female connector
84 10 9 182 792 Iphone 2G Snap In Adapter.

Thanks Quicksilver, that is very helpful. I read the threads you posted and one says "The only option you need to purchase is the Voice Recognition (VR) module, which is now a stand-alone device." Do you have any idea what the part number is for this and is it something I could do myself (with essentially zero technical ability) or will I need to have the dealer do it?

2005 was a transition time, in which BMW started including Bluetooth on the vehicles. Some had them, some didn't, depending on build date. What was yours? Mine was later in the year (May 2005), so mine had the VR/BT/Assist all included.

The production date (according to the VIN decoder) is August 2005. I know I have Assist. I still can't figure out if I've got Bluetooth, though, or, if not, what I need to get it.

Do you have a BT phone? If so, put it in "Search" mode, and see if you can find the BMW listed on the phone. Further details HERE in the Articles.

SOLVED

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I do indeed have Bluetooth - it took about a minute to set up after I found the laminated card with the passkey in my golvebox. :stickpoke. Of course I feel extraordinarily stupid for having not known about this for the past few years, but do take some comfort in the knowledge that when I bought my SAV in 2005 I had absolutely no idea what Bluetooth was (or at least that it would ever be applicable to my life....). If anyone needs a portable BT speakerphone (OTTO, acquired from Woot), I've got one available real cheap:D.

Glad you figured it out. FWIW the "Voice Recognition (VR) module" is not necessary for bluetooth. It just gives you additional (but not much) voice
command ability over certain systems. IMHO don't bother.
