oil flush
 

hi, has anyone have done an oil flush on there X, those it really work & takes most of the slug outta the engine. from wat i heard they can be harmful the seals/ gaskets.. any recommendations guys?
i would really appreciate it..

I'm more of a drain and refill kind of guy, I do know that they pump oil out of the newer Mercedes cars

Prince, there is plenty of info floating around stating that if you change your oil as recommended with OEM quality filters and oil, there is no reason to do this procedure.

Do you know that you have a sludge problem? If you use decent engine oil, and don't regularly extend oil changes beyond 15,000 miles, sludge buildup is not a common problem on these models.

If you do have sludge buildup, then trying a cleaner is fine, it may save you tearing the engine down (worst case). The cleaners can be harsh on the engine (gaskets, seals, etc), as you note. If you don't have a sludge problem, then it can do more harm than good and you should pass on it.

i know guys those cleaners harm the engine( seals, gasket & etc).. but this past week i had both valve cover gasket changed, spark plugs, and oil vent hoses as well( both) but when i was there at the shop( my friend is a mechanic) when he took both valve covers , i was shocked to see all that build up & slug was on both covers... i had to run down a near gas station & got gas and cleaned both cover real good and rinsed them down before he put both back on.. who ever had this baby x before just didnt care for it like a normal human bein well :(
now am gonna change my oil every 3000milles to clean the engin from all the crab, am sure there is more build up & slug down the engine.. i was thinkin to use the oil flush first the get most or some of it out then keep changing my oil every 3K for the next three times.
any recommendation what i can use or what have some of u guys have done this before

What is often found under a valve cover on these models, is an emulsification of oil and condensation. It is often like a paste, and is light cream coloured. If that is what you have, it isn't sludge (I'm not sure what slug is, but let's discuss sludge). Sludge is dark coloured, and is comprised of dirt and byproducts of combustion, suspended in oil.

In either case, changing the oil will often clean it out. You don't need to go 3k (never drive 3000k to an oil change, that is 3 million miles), just go 100 miles and get it good and hot, then drain it and refill it with fresh oil. Change the filter every time.

so instead of changing the oil every 15k miles, your going to change it every 3,000k miles? thats 200 times longer. that doesnt make any sense

dont always believe what you find. i pull valve covers daily, and i see sludge all the time. all of them are using as you say "change your oil as recommended with OEM quality filters and oil" 15k miles is way too long for these engines. just because the oil may be still good(synthetic) doesnt mean it doesnt get dirty, or collect fuel from blow by, or pieces of the oil filter come apart because the engine oil runs at 210degrees. And then when heat soaking, the oil and dirt particles stay on top the the valve train causing gunk or sludge to build up. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. when i pull the valve covers off, you can still see the machining surfaces of all the moving parts.

JCL when i say sludge i mean dark lookin...if it was a different kind of color i wont state sludge & ask wat it was... common sense !!!

I've got 180K+ miles on all my vehicles and attribute it to two things:
 

Every single vehicle I've ever owned I've had "good luck" with - meaning no major repairs or problems, by doing two things: changing the oil every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, and not running the piss out of them. I don't drive like an old man; but I do drive fairly gently. I accelerate easy, brake easy, and in general don't drive it like a race car.

I'm a clean car fanatic too; but that really has nothing to do with why my cars have lasted so long; it just makes them look nice. My 2000 Yukon has 188,000 miles, but appearance-wise it looks more like 40 or 50K miles.
