BMW programming guru disabled my 2005 front parking lights!!!

Many thanks to fellow board member killcrap. I mailed him my light control module and he performed two programming mods. The front parking lights are now disabled which makes the angel eyes look so much better! To clarify, the blinkers still work fine. He also programmed it so my fog lights stay on when I use high beams.

I have asked him about some other possible programming mods and will report back when I have news.

Feel free to send him a PM.

m5james 10-26-2009 01:59 PM

I just want my damn windows to roll up via the remote :)

Since we can get the parking lights shut off to enhance the view of the angel eyes, what are the odds of having the parking lights shut off when we turn the car off, but the switch is left in the parking light/headlight position? I don't have auto headlights in either mfy 7 or my x, but I hate having to always turn the lights all the way off. It'd be nice if my car was smart enough to just shut off all the lights when I remove the key from the ignition, just like the domelights do.

:iagree: Why the hell did BMW decide that North Americans can't have this feature?

black02m5 10-26-2009 02:02 PM

m5james, I wouldn't be surprised if he could program that. Send him a pm and ask.

m5james 10-26-2009 02:03 PM

Cause we're stupid and sue everyone we can make eye contact with. Ever notice your one-touch windows don't work if the door is open...because some idiots locked their keys in the car, so we all have to pay. Land of the free, home of the brave...and those who won't accept responsibility, so we blame everyone else ;)

Depends on what he'd charge, otherwise I'm just going to get it done at Bimmerfest along w/ individual key seating/programming.

motordavid 10-26-2009 02:20 PM

To the OP: good to read, but how are you going to get through
the NJ DMV inspection?

black02m5 10-26-2009 02:35 PM

My E39 M5 was set up the same way. The front parking lights were not on. It passed inspection in NJ so we'll see in 13 months when my X5 inspection is due.

Wasn't poking, just curious, as I ran "company cars" and a few personal cars & m'cycles through the then Nazi-like NJ DMV inspection, '75 to 2000;
they were ball busters then. I see they now give new cars longer inspection stickers, and maybe they have cooled off as the bastions of tightazz,.

Good luck with your ride...

How did you get the light control module?? I have an 05 4.4i and want to take off the drl's

black02m5 10-26-2009 09:49 PM

Any BMW dealer should be able to turn off your daytime running lights.

Derick2k 10-26-2009 11:24 PM

Good to hear it all went well! I have to see how it looks, im still undecided wehter to do it or not.

killcrap 10-27-2009 06:37 AM

Pm box cleared. Yes I can disable DRL and any check control messages for Light bulbs.

gatchalian 10-27-2009 10:11 AM

What about the parking lights shutting off completely when I remove the keys from the ignition? I hate that when I hate the parking lights or even the headlights on, the car is smart enough to shutoff the headlights, but can't auto shutoff the lights completely. It'd be cool if they all just shut off on their own like the same timer for the maplights if a door is left open. Possible?

Weasel 10-27-2009 01:13 PM

Just retrofit automatic headlights...

m5james 10-27-2009 01:21 PM

How is that done? I was also thinking about the ECM in my 7 also, I don't think they ever had an auto headlight option in the E38's.

as best as i can tell not possible without retrofitting automatic lights

on e53, things you will need

2002 and up windshield to fit Rain Light Sensor
Automatic Light Switch
Lamp Module produced from 9/01 or LCMIIIB or LCMIV
Body Module Produced from 9/01 for rain sensor function
Custom Coding to Activate the Light Sensor(activation code for lights)

on e38

you will need to custom fit the rain light sensor prism as no e38's come with Light Sensor
Auto Light Switch from e39
Lamp Module produced from 9/01 or LCMIIIB or LCMIV
Body Module from e39 from 9/01 production
Custom Coding to Activate the Light Sensor(activation code for lights)

I've already got rain sensing wipers, so is the "rain light sensor" something different?

I'm guessing thats like $500 worth of parts, right? Maybe I'll be turning the know after all :(

multiply that figure by 3 and thats about the cost of parts.

rain sensor module is replaced with a rain light sensor module, it will not fit the prism on the windshield.

m5james 10-27-2009 01:58 PM

Weasel...:slap: for your bad suggestion :) I was watching an episode of Super Cars Exposed w/ Tanner Foust and he was driving a twin turbo Vette w/ an STS turbo kit. I can think of something better to do to my 7 for that $1500. Squires Turbo Systems - Universal Then I'd just need to find a reasonable tuner :(

anerbe 10-27-2009 04:46 PM

OP/killcrap:

My 06 is at the dealer right now getting programming done. Is there a location/instruction to navigate through the BMW computer options to turn off the corner lights but still keep on the blinkers? They are willing to help out but may need some initial help finding the menu option (if it's not in plain sight, dealers often say it can't be done).

Thanks!

killcrap 10-27-2009 06:17 PM

Anerbe,
They will not be able to do it, as it is custom done. There is no piece of equipment at the dealer to activate/deactivate it.

Weasel 10-27-2009 07:48 PM

Killcrap, would the round sticky rain/light sensor work for James E38? (like used on E60's)And he would probably need the rear view mirror with the front facing light sensor for it all to work too as the GM/LM looks for the light from front and above to know the source of the light (headlights vs sun)

that sensor in the rear view mirror is only used for dimming the glass. Rear view mirror is not on the KCan. The two light sensors are incorporated in the k-bus rls. There are 3 in the round one. The round one will not work because the k-bus protocol messages are not the same. K-bus/k-can

lemans4.8 10-28-2009 01:23 PM

what is this custom modification? I'm in Canada and sending you my LCM would be nearly impossible. I will gladly paypal you some money for this info!

Rondo 10-28-2009 01:41 PM

Hi I know how he does it ...can i have some money ?:bustingup
Seriously though it takes software such as ncsexpert and a lot of experience in coding to change parameters in bmw modules .

ZsX5o3 10-28-2009 01:57 PM

Great mod. for pre-facelift can this be accomplished with a piece of tape (like e36/e39)?

Thanks for the information!

lemans4.8 10-28-2009 02:00 PM

Rondo - I understand that. I know someone who has this experience but he wants the car for a few days to do it. If he can get any info, it'll be much faster. So i'm looking for specific details, not the basics!

Sorry, no money for you:nanana: haha

ZsX5o3 10-28-2009 03:41 PM

in those models you can simply put a piece of electrical tape over the parking light terminal, it's separate from the blinker terminal.

m5james 10-28-2009 03:43 PM

I'm lost....what are we taping over, and to stop what?

Sorry.

You're impeding one of connections to the signal bulb. The signal bulb as four connections, two for signaling, and two for parking light. You cover the parking light connection by putting electrical tape there.

m5james 10-28-2009 08:12 PM

Ok, so covering the connection w/ electrical tape is a way to stop the parking lights from functioning but everything else works vs doing the killcrap software change? News to me, sorry for the misunderstanding guys.

lemans4.8 10-28-2009 08:32 PM

the killcrap software modification applies to facelifted X5's that has a different parking-light bulb than a pre-facelift X5.

m5james 10-28-2009 08:54 PM

So the super hi-tech electrical tape mod only works on pre-facelifted X's then. :)

xnsf 10-28-2009 08:54 PM

I don't the tape will do anything on the e53s. Pre-facelift signal sockets uses the same terminal for parking lights and signaling. IIRC, there's only two prongs.

ZsX5o3 10-28-2009 11:31 PM

Well there's still the crazy method, which I used on my e46

Corner Parking Light Delete + LEDs + Load Balancers... - E46Fanatics

sorry for thread hijack

lemans4.8 09-14-2011 11:15 PM

Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I've tried to pm killcrap and his box is full..... anyone know if he's still around?

Weasel 09-15-2011 08:05 AM

I still see posts by him so he's still around, but he's not as active on the forum anymore. He is on other forums as well under the same name, you can probably track him down on another forum with a google search.

NJ only checks emissions now. If you have bulbs out and no brakes, you still pass.

Edit: BTW, I have all the programming done in my prefacelift. If anyone needs it done in NJ, PM me.

can someone please guide me through programming out the yellow corner lights with the angel eyes on? I have software but am not sure how to go about doing it. Killcrap cant receive anymore messages either so i can ask him. HELP!!!

dkl 12-03-2011 12:57 AM

3 Attachment(s)
If you have a BMW scanner/reprogrammer like this => P.A.Soft BMW Scanner v1.4.0 - used parts reprogramming, fault codes reader, key chaining, then the recoding is pretty simple. Just disable the "Front turn signals as side lights" and voila, the yellow corner lights are gone. They're just not ON with the headlights/angel eyes. However, they still do operate as turn signals.

Attached are a couple of pictures of how it looks like after the corner lights are disabled.

As for closing all windows and moonroof with the remote, just enable the "Locking (remote control)" under the "Convenient opening/locking" feature. That's all there is to it!

Phr3d 12-04-2011 07:15 PM

Is there a photo of where you plug the PA device in the vehicle, I've seen several listed but not sure what where.

dkl 12-04-2011 09:08 PM

It plugs into the OBD2 port near (above) the dead pedal.

lemans4.8 12-05-2011 01:52 AM

how about fogs on with brights?

jslym777 12-05-2011 03:45 AM

what if you dont have that particular scanner? i have icom/isis

Dear Sir,
Thanks in advance for your help.
I have a E38 from 1997 and i installed already the E39 Auto light switch, rain/light sensor and the LCMIV for E38. But i saw in one of your posts that is necessary to install the Body Module from e39 after september of 2001 ? After that that how to configure ? because the E38 never had Auto lights,
Can you help me ??
Best regards
José
