Thanks for all the replies guys.

So heres the break down, I did a bunch of stuff on my 2001 4.4i -mainly cuz I felt like it and wanted to avoid any unforseen break downs in the near future. Although I did have to change the valve cover gasket which started leaking and was already due for an oil change, it made me feel like changing everything else with it for a peace of mind.

So here it goes:
-Valve Cover Gasket w/ O-rings
-Intake Manifold Gasket
-Valley Pan Gasket
-Thermostat
-Oil seperator
-Spark Plugs
-Fuel Filter
-K&N Air filter
-Microfilters
-Cam shaft positioning sensros (Bank A + B)
-Replaced all the housings that go with the gaskets as well
-Performed Radiator Flush (Replaced with original BMW Coolant)
-Replaced Differential Fluid/Gear Fluid
-Replaced some fasteners and hoses along the way
-Mobile 1 Snythetic Oil/w BMW filter
-Replaced Battery with a DEKA AGM battery (Best quality if you ask me)
-Transmission was rebuilt at 67,000 Miles. (Don't ask, I dont like talking about it)

Did a great Job, and we'll just say that surprisingly enough, parts actually costed more than the labor in this case

OK.... Fine, I paid a quarter the amount the stealers quoted, and half the amount outside Mechanics quoted. Great set of guys to know when it comes to doing work on these cars.

...I'd say I'm good for another 100k miles, no? ;)

Hey, did your guys in Queens purchase the parts for you too?

JohnD 11-07-2009 06:23 PM

sounds like you went down the same path as me on this one. I'm hoping I'm good for another 75K. BTW - What happened to your transmission - mine went out at 70K with no notice

Same milage here, purge valve goes out. Don't know what it does, but I have to replace mine along with the spark plug wires and plugs. You probably need that done too.

There are little oil tubes under the cover of the engine. can't remember what those were called, but they did mine when they were in there to do the water pump as it was already torn apart.

Spark plug wires? They're ignition coil on plug.

Well they gave me the parts at cost, since I could have purchased them on my own through my friends shop, so techniccally, they did me a favor to "pick the parts up for me" rather than have me purchase the parts my self and leave it in the trunk. ...once again, cool set of people to do business with. Mechnaic with 30 years experience on BMW's

:iagree:

...I also wanted to do the wter pump, but they said it was fine, and it seemed purposeless to replace. I found it kind of farfetched, as if they were "too lazy" to do it, but then again, that would contradict the fact that they changed the valley pan gasket, removed the intake manifold, and changedthe thermostat. So I will say I was just given an honest opinion from a mechanic that didnt want to see me spend more of my money.

HE53, 100K - are you on the original WP.

It's cheap insurance and assuming you did mainc. to it, you plan to keep her for awhile ??
I would do the WP at every 60K...on our 4.4 it went bad at 32K in the dead of summer.

HamannE53 11-10-2009 01:56 AM

augh..thats gotta suck. nopee like I said, I suggested they replace the water pump, but my tech said he wouldnt reccomend it ...like i said i found it farfetched, but I may have to change my alternator soon, so I will see how far down theyre willing to work.
