I'm locked Out...help!!!
I need some suggestions. For some reason I'm locked out of my '02 4.4i. The key fob does not work. On the drivers side the key does not open the lock manually - I can move it to the left and right, but it does nothing. I'm stumped...I've contacted my service tech and he doesn't have any ideas either. Does anyone have ideas as to things I could try? If I call a locksmith do you think they could open it with a slim jim or something else or would I be wasting my time/money? Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same thing happen to my 06 X5. It turned out to be the lock actuator (sp).
I had a locksmith and the tow truck guy try to get the doors open with a slim jim but they could not and caused many scratches in the process. The car had to be flat bedded to the dealer who had to break the window to gain access. You can search the threads I have started to read my story. Some model X5's have a hidden key lock in the tail gate area, near where you push the button to get the tailgate open. Mine does not have this but check maybe yours does. Good Luck hope you get it worked out. |
Try holding down the unlock button on the key and see if the windows open.
If not, then get tow truck guy/locksmith to open the car buy using one of those small inflatable bags they use to pry open the top corner of the door, without damaging it - that's what its made for, and open the door with a hook. Good luck |
hook up booster cables to the starter that might open the doors

It was a sad ending. Had my tech come and try to unlock it. We used the airbag to open up the door wide enough, we even had an unlock kit with all the tools etc. As much as we tried we couldn't get it unlocked. After a couple of hours it was getting cold and dark so we had to resort to breaking the passenger window. Now I'm going to be finding little bits of glass every time I vaccuum for the next 2 years. Lucky me, I'm now in the market for a passenger window...anyone have one available? Thanks for all the suggestions.
|
Did you find out why you couldnt open it?Did you change any parts?
|
Breaking a window is never necessary unless the central locking system has gone completely kaput - which would be extremely rare and I personally have never heard of that happening. There are tips for dealing with this here - https://xoutpost.com/file-lockout.htm

|
Why not post the info w/o going through waiting for a PM, or is this something anyone on the street can use to break into any X5 at the mall?
|
It could be. Kinda like telling everybody on the
forum where your hide a key is located......;) |
Well that's kinda scary.

on occasion; yes, it is very clear and fairly easy via instructions; thus, the Admins keep it in their pocket for those in need. GL,mD |
Sorry, I had no idea it was that easy. At this point we also need to be careful who we give the information to, but we'll never really know.
|
If someone could pm me please asap lock smith has tried everything
|
Should make it so that if this is your first post, you shouldn't be able to receive this info. I would like to see someone with at least 100 postings before revealing this info to them.

help, my 2 year old daughter has manged to lock the keys in our e53 x5. we dont have a spare so i am desperate. All the locksmiths I have called say they cant do it and a new window is going to cost about $500 aud. The closed bmw dealer is 700 km in Brisbane and replacement keys are apparantly on back order and could take weeks. I have tried the "secret " lever behind the number plate but its so secret its not there. I have Pm Ucrewx5 but he has not replied. can anybody else help?????
|
Well...it looks like either a brick to the window ($500)...or a "wait-out" for ordering a new key (which you should have done originally which would have totally prevented this frustrating situation....and yes...I'm kicking you while you're down..but only as a kick-in-the-butt to others that are in the same situation as you and are procrastinating a spare key purchase)
I really empathize with you...but living without a spare key is not worth the frustration you (and many before you) have to go through when your only key accidentally gets locked inside the vehicle. There are multiple key types...so the more expensive remote key doesn't have to be your spare key of choice...there is the much less expensive plastic spare key that could be sitting/waiting patiently in a drawer...awaiting to be used in a situation just as you find yourself. Good luck with whichever decision you have to decide. :o Key #3 & #5 in the diagram below are what's available for the e53. The set (#16) costs about the same amount of money a new window will cost you (approx $440). And key #3 cost approx $44 (USD)...which is way cheaper than replacing a window. :( |

Blaming a 2 year old for the problem? Man up and say that you screwed up by locking the keys in the truck. What was your two year old doing with the keys to the trucK? Taking her baby brother to day care?

My door carrier on the driver side broke some time ago. With the help of the forum, I was able to change it. I can now open my door with the handle. Later, I noticed that I couldn't open the door by inserting the key. No idea what I did wrong. It's cold now and I don't want to go opening the door up again. So I may need to know how to do something like this just in case until I can figure out what I did wrong. Also, my rear hatch button doesn't work now either when the doors are unlocked. Weird.
|
Microswitch or a wire on the tail gate is broken.
|
It was working before I changed the carrier.
|
Are we talking about the hatch release at the back of the truck or on the remote?
|
The hatch release on the back of the truck. If the truck is unlocked, i used to be able to go the back and just hit the button on the hatch and it would unlock the hatch. Since I fixed the carrier, it doesn't unlock it anymore. Just as my key doesn't work in the keyhole anymore. Not sure what I fudged up. I followed the directions on changing the carrier precisely.

I had the same issue. Dead battery and broken door cylinder. I used a friends slim jim to pop open the hood. Then connected jumper cables in the engine bay and opened the car via keys. Then immediately got door cylinder fixed.
|
Ive always wondered, whats the cheapest window to break?

So now do I get into my car when my keys are locked in it???

You get a hold of your spare key. What? You didn't take the time to order a spare key from BMW when you first purchased your vehicle? So, all this time...knowing that you only had 1 key...you rolled the dice...taking the chance that if something happened to your one & only key...that you'd cross that bridge when the day came...instead of doing the right thing, and at least order one of the inexpensive non-remote spare key? :dunno: (/devil's advocate) (see #2 and #3 in image below of 2000-up key sets) :D :D :D |

This will allow you to reach in and PRESS the central unlock button (on the center console)...then PULL TWICE on one of the interior door handles...which should go around the double lock feature if your build date is 9/99-up. Quote:
If you locked the vehicle with the key, it is double locked...which means that the doors won't open from the inside either. This is an extra safety precaution in the event a thief breaks your window...they will have to crawl over & through the broken glass to get inside the cabin for things they can't reach. If you have a spare key, you can try hooking up power (jumper cables or a battery charger) to the positive battery cable connections on the alternator or starter...then grounding (the negative cable). You may have to remove an underpanel to gain access. (see diagram below) If you have a spare key, once power is connected, you can insert it into the driver's door lock cylinder and turn the key to the electronically actuated position (45° angle). And if you have a spare key, you can obviously insert the key into the door lock cylinder and turn it 90° to the MANUAL UNLOCK POSITION (turn counter clockwise until the door pin rises)...and bypass all the above drama. :) http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...r%20Unlock.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...0Positions.jpg (again, not knowing your model/model year/build date...you may have an air-cooled alternator...but the positive battery cable still attaches to it) http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20Diagram.jpg |

Locked out. Have key. Lock cylinder broken. Can someone pm me on how to get in?

Help I am locked out answer- Can some one add this the to DIY?
|
Problem was the key cylinder was broke. Was able to activate the unlock mech. with long semiflex rod inserted between door and frame. Thinking about installing a hidden microswitch. However, i've owned the car 10 years and this is the first time it has happened. I had just replaced the battery in the key fob I was using, and it worked for about a week...............it was just dumb luck that the key cylinder broke at the same time.

Fixing the cylinder isn't difficult; here's a thread that has some good info on the repair: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...inder-fix.html I sourced the repair parts through eBay for not a lot of money, but ended up with a malformed part in the kit. Thankfully I was able to reuse the original in place of the bad part. |

Locked out!
Looks like my cylinder is jacked up. Keyfob has been dead a while and I can't manually unlock. Are there still admins that know the secret unlock "procedure" I read about at the start of this thread?

I always wondered if the old school "glass scoring and tap to break the line" technique would work on a non laminated side glass? Then no shattered pieces...
