rain sensor action is annoying

I have owned my 2003 X5 for 10 months now and love most of it. I just cannot bond with the rain sensor wipers though. The a-rythemic action is annoying as well as the propensity to make them swipe too often, creating a squeal. I set it on the slowest setting too and have cleaned the windshield. Is it possible to set the full time slow speed setting slower as a way of getting around using the auto feature?

I would like to hear an answer to this as well. I also find the rain sensing setting causes them to wipe too often.

The rain sensing wipers are probably the thing I love most about my X5. To turn them off simply rotate the lever on the stalk.

If you remove the black housing around the mirror and sensor youll see a plug going into the rain sensor itself. Simply unplug it and they will wipe now as regular intermittent.

And your auto headlights wont work at same time lol i tried that.

so by auto headlights, you mean just that setting that makes them turn on when it's dark and turns them off when its light or the ignition is killed? If so, I could easily let go of that to have the wipers work rythemicaly and without squeels. Is it hard to remove the cover, and did they work properly when you re-attached the wires after disabling, just in case I want to revert? And by regular intermittent, do you mean I control with the little adjusting wheel to a constant intermittant action?

I find the most annoying thing about the sensor wipers, is having to turn them off and then on again to get them to work after the vehicle has been switched off. Never encountered that in a vehicle before.

These add on "features" are destroying the BMW desirability to me. It is like the microsoft VISTA propgram, it trys to do stuff for you that you do not want it to do and then you cannot figure out how to get around these little "helpers"
