Please help - p2096 and p1092 SES Code

Hello, please help, I am all out of options on what to fix next on my vehicle as I have taken it to several shops and they are all telling me to change something different from one another. I hate to spend money on something that does not fix the issue. There's a lot of I think without any assurance. I've been pulling P2096 Post Calayst Fuel Trim Too Lean Bank 1 code for some time now (about 1 1/2 months). I believe the BMW code is 225. The car runs fine with the exception of a slight rough engine idle. I have already replaced both pre and post Oxygen Sensors. I have replaced the Camshaft Exhaust Sensor and still pulling the code. One shop told me to change the fuel injectors and another shop has told me to change the calaystic convertor. Another has told me to change the MAF sensor and so forth. Please help. By the way, I've also had a shop run a "smoke test" to see if there is any leaks but I do not. Any help is greatly appreciated. What should be fixed in order to resolve this check engine light code of P2096?

Also, I am also getting P1092 code (Pre-Catalyst Fuel Trim Too Lean Bank 2) once in awhile. Not so much as P2096. P1092 comes I say about 10% of the time.

Have you brought it to the dealer for diagnosis? A lean mixture fault wouldn't be caused by an O2 sensor or a cam position sensor... It may be worth paying the diagnosis fee at the dealer at this point as it seems you have spend more than that cost in parts that likely weren't needed.

Thank you for your response. I haven't taken it to the actual BMW dealer yet. I have a shop in town here that is very reputable and only works on BMW's. They have all the necessary tools as the dealer. They were the ones to informed me to replace the fuel injectors after they ran a smoke test to see if I had any leaks in my system which I did not. Another shop I took it to for a second opinion told me to change the catalytic convertor. Any thoughts?

I can't see the injectors causing a lean mixture fault, haven't ever seen that one... And the cat converter could possibly cause a lean mixture fault, but not at all common and there is usually a "catalyst efficiency fault" stored for that bank affected.

If the shop has the GT1, what are the BMW fault codes and descriptions? I can tell you alot more from that info than the generic P-codes...

I have been informed that it is BMW fault code 225 (P1192). Post Cat Sensor (Bank 1); trim control. And the other is 235 (P1190) Pre Cat sensor (Bank 1); trim control. Doing some research the code description states "Rationality check for O2 control adaptation with post (225) and pre (235) catalyst sensor bank 1. Any further thoughts? Thank you once again for the help. This has been driving me nuts and early part of next year, I have to renew my tabs and most likely I will need an emissions test, which I won't pass at this moment. Thank you for the help once again.

So it sounds like the post cat fault is saying the catalyst isn't cleaning the exhaust enough, that's really the only reason the post cat sensor is there anyways... to monitor cat performance.

And the pre cat fault is for fuel trim control, whether it be rich or lean I don't know without reading the adaptation values, but it very well may be caused by the cat converter on that bank if it is either clogging (which would cause rich faults) or coming apart (which would cause lean faults).

Resolution that worked for me

see recent post link below that i put up, this worked on my X5 - quick fix of 20 minutes. Suspect Air Intake Actuator was broken. See quick repair below.

So your thoughts on this issue would be to replace the cat? If so, is there one or two to replace? Price? Thxs again.

How you doing, confused a little, the links you provided fix the engine codes I'm getting listed in this thread? If so, worth a shot if it is only 20 minutes of work. Can you confirm this worked for you?
