hi all...just to update about my pano roof rattle..went to bayside bmw to complain about the rattle and the constant issues with my x and got the old eat sh.. response...oh you know bmw will not cover any rattles under cpo...so i told him when will the hemoraging stop with this car...fuel pump/water pump/ tranny reflash/power steering hoses leaking(will get repplaced on 11-19-09 at hassel bmw under cpo) and know pano roof rattle(it rattles while going over sharp bumps on nthe right side where the cross beam attaches to roof)..s/a said let service manger at at hassel look at since it will be there and notify bmw of problem and see what happens, if not bring it to bayside bmw and they will see what they can do...basically nothing...i am thinking of sueing bmw if nothing gets done...what do you think...2005 4.4 with 21k miles...what will happen in a couple of years with this crap..thanks rob

rattles are not covered under cpo, go ahead and sue them, your expecting a perfect car, this is not reasonable. when you get off your high horse, let us know.

unfortunately, normal wear and tear aren't part of CPO, including rattles. if they find an actual damaged part, that's a different story.
it's part of buying used. you save money, but don't expect it to be like a new car. |
hey killcrap thanks for the info..i wasnt expecting for you to solve my problem i can take care of my own issues...eveyone else posts their problems why am i any different..if you had as many problems with your x5 as i have had with mine i would want to hear how you would proceed...i guess you r happy with anything that happens to your x

From fading memory, I think that was the first year of the Pano roof; thus the potential for niggling fit issues are higher...
from reading all the probs and complaints the OP has had with his X, I would rec'd dumping it and getting another brand. GL,mD |

It just sounds like you were typing while mad to me. And I wouldn't think killcrap would let any problems just sit untouched with his X5, he'd simply find and fix the problems and get on with his day. I'd still ask the guys at hassel if they could look at the rattle since you're already going to be in there for other work, they may hook you up on the shops dollar if you have a good relationship with them. But if they can't do anything, I'd suggest simply taking measures to fix the rattle yourself. There are many threads on here about pano sunroof rattles that can give you ideas on where to check and what people have done to fix them. In your case it may be as simple as a 3" piece of felt tape. |

OP try taking it to an independent shop, maybe they can find the problem, plus I'm guessing that the roof cassette is loose somewhere and maybe it can be fixed. |

i have a very good relationship with the dealership and everyone is very nice and i am very nice to everyone even though the last s/a wanted to charge me for the power steering line hoses that will be replaced on 11/19 until i showed him the cpo pamphlet that they are covered and he still didnt believe me and asked the service manager that was standing in the garage area right in front of me why would i lie....i feel he should have known that but i let it go...i am not in the business of breaking chops nor do i want to..but my experience with the x has not been that great...i apologize if i came off like that but it has been a frustrating experience...rob

Rob - I think a lot of BMW owners struggle with a love hate relationship with their cars. Over the past year my 2001 4.4 X5 with 70K miles needed a new transmission, front calipers, valve cover gaskets, valley pan gasket, intake gasket, waterpump, oil separator, etc. I have dumped in over 8K dollars in repairs alone. There are many days I think of selling the X5 but then I drive it for an hour and think this is the greatest car I have ever owned. Consider driving your X5 like dating a cheerleader when you were in highscool, sure it costs more to maintain but it is worth it.

Rob, sorry to hear about all your problems. You are the only person who can decide if these types of problems are worth 'YOUR' time/money/trouble or not.
If you think you are not enjoying the car enough at the current rate of troubles you have been having, I think the best thing for you would be to sell it and get into a Lexus or similar Japanese brand for better reliability/longevity. |
