Question about SCFM on air compressor
 

I am looking to buy an air compressor, but am not clear on one thing. I am looking to use this for light use of air ratchet and air hammer, also to use it for detailing my car...

f the machine has an SCFM rating of 4.2, but the air ratchet has a rating of let's say 5.0, will the compresoor be able to run this tool for short bursts when the tank is full. I understand that it would not be able to run this continuous, as the motor wouldfill the tank with less air than the tool requires, but for short bursts it should work. right or wrong???

Yeah, it would be good enough for short bursts. What is the max pressure for the compressor you are looking at? Most small compressors only run 115-120 psi, but some sears units run 150 which makes the air tools run much better. Most mechanic shops run 165.

For personal use I have Makita 5200, 6-1/2 cfm at 90 psi and peak pressure around 130 PSI. Never fail me running impact wrench or ratchet to work on cars.

Now if you plan to wet sand for detailing I think you'll need one with bigger tank (albeit lower PSI will be OK).

did you have issues with the wheels? I am looking at that model. it looks great... just people have issues with it.

Nope, The wheels are plastics but seems sturdy enough for normal use.
I bought 100ft Goodyear hose so I don't have to move the Makita too often in the garage. Just change the pump oil once after a few hours of usage and flush out the water in the tank from time to time(open the valave on the bottom of the tank), best investment in the garage I'll tell you.
