Water leaks
So I brought my 4.8is in to the dealer today because a LARGE amount of water accumulated on the floor in the rear seat area.
They just called me and said that so far they have identified 2 of the vapor barriers are leaking, AND there is something wrong with a drain on the sunroof. :wow: It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. I have also asked them to look in to the carpet because there might be a mold issue now. I want them to at least shampoo it. |
Not familiar w/ the vapor barriers, but the sunroof drainage tubes getting plugged is a common problem.

Just had a sunroof seal replaced - drains getting flushed didn't previously help. Small amount of water was coming in up front and dripping from overhead console, passenger side. All covered under warranty.

Has it helped with the leak (have you had a chance to confirm)? How much would it have cost without warranty, if you happen to know? |
The leak is fixed, no more drips. I don't know how much it would cost outside of warranty, but as a wild guess I'd say $500. You can debug it further by setting up a hose to pour water on the top of the X while you are inside, might help to have a 2nd person work the hose.
Good luck. |
I just had to take all 4 door panels off and check the vapor barriers after discovering water under the carpet on the entire passenger side. All 4 barriers had to be re-sealed as they all had a spot which came un-done...

Once you take the door panels off there is a black "foam" material that BMW used as a vapor barrier. You would think this is just a vapor barrier however it lets a tremendous amount of water IN the truck of the seal around this barrier is broken anywhere. I check each one of mine and a few spots had seperated from the door. I used black sealant from autozone to re-seal this to the door and my water leak issues went away (at least until one of my moonroof drain pipes popped out of the drain tube and leaked behind the dash....)

How did you go about fixing the moonroof problem |
