Window Regulator Repair Kit???

BMW X5 WINDOW REGULATOR REPAIR KIT REAR LEFT:eBay Motors (item 170398890180 end time Nov-24-09 05:22:26 PST)

What do you guys think?
I am going to replace my window regulator for the first time.
Should I purchase this cheap kit or get a new regulator for $60-80 off ebay?

Doesn't look like the kit comes with any instructions and this is my first time doing this myself

My regulator is still working, but I noticed that the little pin is popped out of the regulator itself. I popped it back in, but it snapped right back out after I moved the window. I've watched the video and it seems easy enough, but does this little strand of crossed copper wire really keep all that tension and keep the little pin from popping out 100 percent?

talk to mrbmwx5....he has the video for regulator repairs

Did you not read my post? I said I've already seen the video, I'm asking if it works 100 percent. I found a thread he created and replied on it also. I was also curious as to what guage wire he used, but since I haven't gotten a reply, I used some 12/3 electrical wire I had in the garage. Using the 12/3 wire seems to work, and w/ it having 4 strands, it gave me enough to do 2 regulators cutting the wire into like 6-8" lengths. Now I just need to fix this damn window rattle.

If no joy here maybe try the Detailing Forum . In any event good luck getting that shite out.

Suki,
I just noticed you're new here. First WELCOME!.... and sorry for picking on you, but this thread will not find you your rdio amplifier. Try For Sale forum here, or use "search" option to find what you need.

I tried there...but it only had vids for e46...couldnt find e53

m5james 07-01-2010 03:10 PM

Sorry, it was on MrBMWX5's Flickr account. The E46 videos should be similar since the window regulator design isn't much different.

When my window regulator failed. I ordered one from ebay and it looks oem etc but it didnt quite function as good as the oem. I compared them and the only difference was that the springs located at the end of the wire by the pully on the oem their short and on the one ordered they were about an inch vs half and inch and this made a huge diff. there was a slight noise so i took off the little bracket that you see in the repair kit and placed on my original and put the cable in and it works like new. So i think its worth to buy just the repair kit and not the whole regulator assembly. My other window is showing signs of going so i will buy the repair kit. I was wondering what to do with the moisture barrier. Mine tore into pieces. Should i buy a new one or not. Atm i didnt place it back.

m5james 07-01-2010 04:10 PM

I use a long, retractable razor blade http://www.preservationequipment.com...mb?w=283&h=283 and cutaway at the seam between the door and the seal itself. Peeling it off clumps up the seal and you risk tearing the moisture barrier as you did.

So my wife's X5 decided to snap the cable tonight. When this happened i wound the cable TIGHT up into the green cable real and broke the plastic piece(white piece in the kit).

Does this work? How do you install? Any guides? Good buy?
